Not entirely sure what photographic opportunities there will be, but I hope to go along and find out... it's on saturday and sunday at 8pm but I'll be going on saturday.

Give us a shout if you fancy it too...

    Horrible, horrible website. Good photo.
I'll do you and others a favour:

    Go shoot it!

That looks amazing. I'd love to see/shoot that, but I don't think that I'll have a tripod with me. I wonder if I'd be able to get anything without.

If you ramp up the ISO and use a fast lens like the 50mm f1.8, you might get a 1/60 exposure, maybe? Fajitas would be the man to ask about this one.

i'd imagine there wont be any shortage of light... given that the place will be on fire. Could be wrong though...

Funny you mention that lens. I bought my 50mm f/1.8 for shooting indoors, but it might actually be perfect for a night like that one. I was thinking that with a fast shutter, I'm not sure that I'd get much/any flame action... just light from them. The above picture looks pretty interesting, and I'd like to see if I'm able to reproduce it. I may have my tripod after all -- I have room to pack it as of this instant, so we'll see.

I'm thinking of going on Saturday. Anyone fancy a meetup?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 69 ✭✭tab126

I would, but I'm at a bit of a loss about how to get there. Or anywhere, really. :(

Beside the IFSC, from what I can tell. I'm planning for Saturday night, but things might end up getting in the way, so I will be posting on Saturday if I'm definitely heading out and will be happy to meet any boardsies that are about...

I figure I can take the 10 up to the city and walk to the display, but getting back is an issue. The 10 ends at midnight, and there is no nitelink 10... I'd have to take the 46N to get back to the UCD campus? Okay, maybe that isn't so hard... But is it right? Thanks for the info.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭mdebets

You could also take the 46A to go into town (stops just outside UCD on the flyover).
The 46N is probably the only late night one.
Have a look here there are all buses that go to UCD.

was down at this event tonight -- it was actually quite good --
Took loads of photos with my d 50, but unfortunatly my flickr is full.
Dublin was very photogenic tonight -- fire , Dublin lights, clear sky , fullish yellowy moon -- overall i thought it was good !

I went along at the last minute, there are some pics on my flickr. There were tons of people with cameras, wondered if i saw any boardies without knowing it... anyway it's on again tonight and well worth going. I'd say go at 9pm, or earlier if you want to see them actually lighting things but it takes ages.

I was quite surprised, I could go right up to 1/400 at f1.8 on ISO800 when i was actually shooting the fire itself - just had to go right down to 1/100 at ISO1600 when i was trying to get people's faces. Unfortunately, in the low light, my focusing leaves a lot to be desired...

I was shocked at how much light there was. I barely went down to f/1.8 with an ISO of 100. Some of mine do suffer from a bit of the shakes, but I'm not trying to get anything poster-sized. Thanks for the bus info, too. Luckily, I they lit everything up in time to get a cheap bus home.

And elven - the few that you do have in your flickr stream are very good. Congrats on some great captures.

I was there too, but most of my shots suffer heavily from shake. I think I have to go again today and bring my tripod. I also went to the Liffey Boardwalk later. They hung some huge lanterns onto the lamp posts.
    I uploaded some pictures here.

Wouldn't you just know it! As soon as I'd finished editing a few Fringe images of the fire installation tonight, I try and upload 'em, and flickr uploads are currently broken. Shoite!

    Try again tomorrow.

Yup Im having the same hassle, sigh! Been like that all day the engineers are 'working on it' that means they are having lots of coffee breaks and chatting on IM... thats what we all do when we say we are working anyway, its an engie thing :)

I managed to upload one(not from the fire thing) just there. The second one seems to be uploading too. Might be working again.

    And another few here

Very difficult to capture properly on camera - you didn't really get the full impact unless you were there (and smelt the kerosene and candles).

This looks like it was pretty cool - some great pics from it too - raging I missed it too.

Being Ireland I expected something over hyped and not that good when you actually see it.

But i was pleasently surprised, it was very good. And gave me a good chance to try out my brand new very cheap and crappy tripod :D

I went along on Saturday and Sunday . Had a great time. The fire installations was very impressive as was the Brazilian disco on Sat. Had a nightmare getting any good shots though. Had a look last night when I got home and was really disappointed - most were quite blurry and soft. Had one or two crackin shots that were ruined by a general softness in detail around the subjects in the pics. Ah well...learning experience i suppose.

(very well organised and a great atmosphere all round - very, very few idiots i must add )
