streaming picture problem

When I open up a stream, say BBC or ESPN using Windows Media Player or PPStream, I get audio and video ok, but the images are all fcuked up. Kinda like wearing night vision goggles except much worse. It appears as a rainbow of incredibly bright colours making it impossible to watch.

I don't really know how to descibe it better than that. When I took a screenshot it just appeared black so that's no use either.

Could someone please help me out here as I haven't a clue what I'm doing when it comes to codecs and stuff. I've already installed the k-lite codec pack full version but that hasn't done anything. Youtube and other videos work fine. It's a brand new Acer Ferrari btw.

Sometimes this visual corruption is actually related to the graphics driver & the build of WMP you have.

I would suggesting updating one or the other first to see what happens, the latest WMP 11 can be gotten at this link.

As for graphics drivers what kind of GPU is present ?

Thanks, I'll download the new WMP Beta now. Never been a fan of it anyway.

As for GPU, I'm not certain all I know is in relation to graphics the specs say ATI Mobility X700 128MB dedicated graphics.

Make sure to create a System Restore point before installing WMP 11, easier in the long run to just roll back if you don't like it. :)

Not totally sure on the drivers with ATI

Officially ATI provide support for their mobile versions for some notebook manufacturers, in the event yours isnt look below (Acer are not on the list).

Download the latest driver Catalyst 6.8 (Catalyst Control Center Package 34.7MB) run the installer it will say no supported ATI GPU found and close itself, now download this tool. Run it and point it to the folder on the hard drive were the ATI driver extracted itself to a folder & it will tweak the driver to support the mobility versions of ATI GPU's.

Once done close the mobility modder program and open the ATI driver folder and run the setup.exe and it should install the drivers.
