Like many nights when I dial-up I got 4800bps tonight ...... yet recently BT say my line check is YES for Broadband , Eircon says yes subject to test . Usually I get 46,000 to 52,000 bps when I dial up , Im 4.5km from exchange.

Should I believe BT and switch to €45 per month iso €70 with Eircom ?

Have I a better chance of bb with eircom ( as they control the copper )? ie will I sign up to BT and then find that I get Talk+ but no BB ?

Lastly , I already decided to sign up for BT on line , but how the F##* am I to understand what a PCMCIA card is ? Not in their FAQ!
Then , Do I want a self installed wired or wireless modem?
What the hell is PCMCIA card?
Or do I want a UBS card?
If these questions have been answered already ....... sorry ! but my search at 4800bpm didnt find it!! Dont abuse me just point me in the right direction.

It shouldn't make any difference although Eircom may be more inclined to sort out any problems that may arise from the test if the order is with them. If you want to order from BT, order BB first on it's own and when thats up and running, upgrade to the €45 all-in-one package.
Secondly, don't order BT online. Their online ordering system is (or was) notoriously unreliable. Lost or incomplete orders were common place causing weeks of delay. Ring them and order over the phone and get the name of the rep.
A PCMCIA card is for use with a laptop (if it has a PCMCIA slot on the side). This is one here: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=306153
You can use either that or USB on a laptop. For a desktop pc you'll need either a USB adapter or an internal PCI card like this one: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=306151
If you don't need wireless then wired is the handier way to go.
