Something we should (I think) all have. Photo(s) that you would love to have taken, or had the chance of taking. Whether it be a landscape, portrait, whatever. An emotional shot, in an abstract sort of way.

Mine would have to be a half hour photoshoot of Johnny Cash. Low key lighting set up, with the Canon 85mm 1.2 L lens.

    Yours?

What a great thread idea Al. When I first read yours I started thinking of what famous person i would love to have shot, it would have been John Lennon. But then... I thought about it properly.. and the shot/shots I would have love to have taken are of people close to me that are not around anymore, for whatever reason. I dont tend to take pictures of people, never have... and so, if I had a time machine I would go back and shoot as many pictures of those that I have been closest to while I had the chance. Thats mine. So carpe diem I guess.. capture the visual reminders of the people you care about while you can.

I know its not really what your question was angled at, but.. they are the shots I dream of taking :)

    Nope, that's exactly it. :)

Whatever shot would have meant something for you. It dosn't have to be something or someone famous really. I guess I coulda chosen something more personal, but luckily, I managed to get some of the most emotional shots I could... kinda... :)

Julius Caesar as he led a charge against the Gauls. Seriously, that would've been damn cool. He wore a bright red cape.

Real fantasy, as in not bound by reality?

    Hmmmm, elves....

Failing that, Liv Tyler in a glowy forest, in a purple velvet dress :) I'm cheesy, and I don't frickin care.

Oh that's not fair. Do you really expect me to choose one?

    1) photoshoot with surfers and kitesurfers in either Hawaii or Fiji.

    2) private photoshoot with Mika Hakkinen or Stefan Edberg (yes, I know, I'm old)

    3) Finances to shoot a year around the world trip without having to rough it in a hostel (I'm definitely too old for that).

Gosh, I'd love to spend a weekend in the Formula One paddock taking pictures of the drivers and engineers working on the cars. That would be my absolute dream photoshoot.

440's point is interesting. 90% of my pictures are pf people oddly enough though they are not technical shots as such. They are of practically everyone I know. They wont see the light of day here or on Flickr because they are just for me, my family and my friends. The worth of doing it became clearer when dad died 4 weeks ago. I have hundreds of him although it's not that easy to go through them yet.

My fantasy is the ultimate sports picture. Bursting from the frame with emotion and power. Could be joy, saddness, relief, whatever but it would be able to tell a complete story without any words. Preferrably of an unknown.

Great thread Faj. I'm looking forward to the responses.

    Pure Cheese! :)

mmm, I would love to go and shoot Wildlife photography in the Amazon. Just spend months wandering around taking photos of rarely seen animals and birds and then off to Africa!

An expensive dream! but one I would like to realise someday.

The wonderful thing is that when you feel ready to look they are there. The mistake I made was being too young to realise the value of this. I empathise with your sentiments of not feeling ready to look at such shots, unfortunately I found that when I was ready to look all that was there were other people's photos. Its nice to have them of course, they are better than nothing, but they are other people's moments - I wish I had captured my own.

(Of course it also applies to people who have become estranged :( )

I have now decided to do a photoshoot of everyone I love. Over the next year or so I'm gonna make sure I get a whole bunch of photos of every one of my family and friends :)

I know it's not on the same scale, but two of my best mates passed away a year ago, luckily, I have some great photos of them. 1 or two I'd consider to be some of my favourites. I know how emotional a photograph can be. :)

My fantasy photo would be more a set.
My dream would be to take 2 years.
    1 year in paris.
1 year travelling from Cairo to Cape Town all the way through africa, only using local transport.

Armed with 2 leica's and 3 lenses and a few hundred rolls of APX 25 and 100 and NeoPan 1600.

As for a specific single shot..
To capture a certain girl from my past, someone who I only knew for a short time, but that time was magical, on film (ideally? Leica M6, 75mm 'lux, APX 25 dev'd in Kodak D-76,me picky never!!) would have been an honor. Unfortunatly she was snatched from here before her time, and escaped my lens as a result.
