I got one of these in the end and I have to say really happy with the results

A friends horse called Lily who is being retired this weekend, brutal background but not too bad in b&w

    Spirit and Dillon saying hello
    IMG_48480209.jpg

Both pictures shot wide open at f2.8 First shot 1/60th at 18mm and second at 1/50th at 38mm Second was on servo and centre point hence the centred composition :)

Thumbs up for the first one. The second one would do with a more 'romantic' crop for want of a better word.

If you're not adverse to photoshop, there's a hell of a lot of potential in the first one!

As we're here, what's your opinion of the lens?

The lens is excellent, I liked the range with the kit lens but was dissapointed with the quality. The Sigma fitted the bill, I know some people have gotten bad copies but had no problems with it even in servo in low light. Lens feels like a good balance on the 350D, good results at wide open which I am particulary happy with. What would you do with the first in PS, I was going to tweak the levels maybe try and darken the background. Thanks for the comments Fajitas.

I'd use the lens correction option under the filter menu to fake some additional background blur. Maybe just use a highly feathered rough selection to mask the horse. I'm sure there's lots of fancy stuff you can do with the B&W conversion.

Both shots are really well composed, very happy looking. good luck with the new lens.
