1, wiil i be able to tune in all the channels that are free on the sky digital package??

Yes, and more. A Sky digibox is restricked to what fec's it can take. 22000 and 27500 is all that can be inputted into a digibox, where as with a FTA receiver, this will not be a problem.
2 do u tune them in the same way as u do on the sky system like going to add channels etc??

Not quite as straight forward, but there should be an option with in the installation menu for you to carry out a manual scan.
3, iv seen the channel list for freeview uk it says e4 and sky sports news are on it?? i dont see these on the irish package???

Freeview is only available in the UK and N Ireland through an aerial system. This is different to what you are getting. You are getting a FTA satellite system.
4do u have any helpful tips or tricks for the system??

Depends on which receiver you have purchased and whether it will be able to take a cam.
5 can u get real madrid tv on it like iv read on this forum??[/QUOTE

    Yes you can.
6 is there any othr channels u can get that would show football or european leagues???

Not on 28.2. Although you will get Champions league on ITV4

    Yep.

No, it won't be the same way. In effect, any FTA receiver has no channels stored on it, until its initially setup. But you will be able to make/adjust your own channel lineup.

These channels are not FTA on satellite.
Freeview is UK Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT), not Satellite. Totally different techologies.

Depends what receiver you get :)
    ap977 wrote:

So long as it remains Free-to-air, yes.

Not if you are pointing solely at the normal satellite to which Sky customers are pointing at. If you are getting a motorised system, to pick up satellites that are aimed towards a domestic continental European market, then thats a start.

E4 is only on Sky, NTL, and Freeview for those who can get good signals from UK terrestrial transmitters (that transmit DTT)

What UK Freeview channels are you after?

A satellite and Skybox with "Freesat from Sky" viewing card, you'd get all BBC, all ITV, Channel 4, five, five US, five Life and Sky3. Then other free channels like Sky News, CNN, Film4, etc.

E4 is still only on satellite via subscription to Sky, and there are no free digital channels on cable.

I have a little chart explaining which channels are free on Freeview in the UK, and their status on satellites. Some are location specific, due to bandwidth restrictions, e.g. S4/C is only available in Wales on Freeview, yet it is available across the UK on satellite.

    Colour Coded.
Black indicates on Free to air (FTA) on Satellite.
Orange indicates on Free to View (FTV) on Satellite.
Red indicates on subscription on satellite
Sky Blue indicates its not on satellite at all.

    BBC One
    BBC Two
    BBC Three
    BBC Four
    ITV 1
    ITV 2
    ITV 3

Of course you can. I've added some stuff I missed earlier.

Sorry byte, one further edit, there is a channel called Smile TV on Freeview, and not on satellite, hence colured yellow. I see you have posted that up on the FAQ thread, so you will have to edit it there too. Sorry for the incon.

Actually the Ferguson boxes now come pre loaded with astra2, 1 and Hotbird. Up to now I've always wondered why manufacturers did not do this for ease of use.

Excellent. DMC. but on my laptop, a pure yellow is very hard to read.

    Smile
    What about bold grey?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

Watty, yes, the yellow on default skin was a tad harsh, sky blue seems to suit better.

As does my Silvercrest SL65/12. Its Astra 2 listings are a bit out of date, though they are a start.

I'm currently waiting on a null modem cable so that I may copy data from one pre-setup STB to another. It should save a lot of time, with the presumable benefit of each box will have the channels listed the same.

I know the Technomates come with Hotbird channels pre-programmed, but that's it.

Byte, if you are after a null modem cable, drop me a pm with your address, I think I have a spare one lying about somewhere, I can get it off to you.

    Hi all,
this is my first post-nice to meet you all.
I have a silvercrest SL65, two dishes one 1.2 mtres and one 60cm the larger one is pointing at Hotbird (I think) and the other is towards God knows what!
Here are the various frequencies I can get

    Sirius - 11728 mgz 27500 ks/s TP index 1/69

    A/Bird West - 12543 mgz 27500 ks/s TP index 1/3

    Helias 12524mgz 27500 ks/s TP 1/20

    Hotbird 10719mgz 27500 ks/s TP 1/157

    satellite?? 10720 29892 TP 1/96

I have no idea how to scan for Arabsat or Nilesat or anything else manually on this receiver and hope that someone out there will take pity on me!

You n eed to moce the dish for each different satellite or the Satellite scan is actually not sensible
