    What is it like?

I got my lease today, but I can't see where it says whether I'm staying in a single or twin room...

    How much is your rent?
if Its 2x€1900 then youre in a single.
If its less than that, then youre sharing.
Only about 15% of people in River are sharing rooms.

Nore is pretty much identical to everywhere else in River apartments. Theyre nice enough. Very student-centred, obviously!

You get high speed internet access, a big desk, a noticeboard, en-suite,shower in/with your bedroom. Showers are hot, heating is good, rooms are clean and close to everything.

In the kitchen/living room, you get cable tv, enough tables and chairs (obviously!) a fridge, microwave, oven, kettle, toaster, etc.

You get a swipe card to get into your room and apartment.
Thats about all I can think of.

River apartments are nice. The only thing to add is that you'll be sharing a washin machine and tumble dryer with the other apartments in Nore. You'll need to buy tokens from the apartments office. Everything else you'd want will be in the apartment, down to colander, water filter, clothes horse and a little mat to put outside your front door ^_^

Can you get that in your room?

Now what this about sharing a washin machine is it two apartments or two buildings?

Im in the Carrick building btw

I think most buildings have a room with a washing machine and dryer shared with the other apartments in that building. Theres also a room beside the office with a load of washers and dryers in it.

You only get cable in the kitchen/living room.

Wow! All that is a lot more than I thought I would get!
Thanks for letting me know, FL and Kitsune! :)

Sharing a washing machine is very acceptable.

Could anyone give me a hint as to the average living cost with exception of accom fee? I know that I probably won't be spending much time in my room thus saving a lot of electricity. And I presume that the heating is the most expensive facility?

And the kitchen/living-room is shared, right?

Thanks for all the help! Now I have even more to look forward to. ;)

Electricity and heating are taken out of your deposit...
You wont have to pay for them, just dont expect an awful lot of money back from your deposit at the end.

Living costs are basically food and drink.
    :)

Just wondering, out of all the fire alarm hic-ups, all the parties and all the loud music and complaints, was anyone ever evicted to your knowledge, I can't think of any.

    Go wild folks!

Well then, Seán Mac, I will personally deliver a written complaint to the residence office to make sure that the noises and music while drinking is gone. The lease is strict on these matters and thank heavens for that. I'm not going to let a pack of wild teenagers ruin my sleep and make my mornings miserable. Read the lease for further information. If the noise persists, those responsible will be evicted. That may happen allready after the first incident. if you're offended, I apologise for being so defensive. Such is the l[ease]aw however.

are you telling him this from experience, or is this your first time in Maynooth?

So your warning a stranger(Maybe not) not to make noise at night or you'll tell on him, I'd like to see you complain on the whole student population. The residence office account for highly strung people, fair enough if your complaint is seen as totally reasonable and the offender shows total apathy and disrespect, then they'll take it seriously. Would you take someone seriously, they came up demanding action about the music at 1 o'clock last night. You'd reek of control freak.Anyway, I'd know, I was personally warned about four times last year.So stop complaining, yer reckin me buzz.

Edit: What in God's name is a Leaseaw?

    hey,

i took a nosey around the avoca building today and it's nice enough but it looks pretty snug i gotta say. the living room/kitchen is a bit squashed! but i shouldnt be expecting extravagence!

oh here whats the deal on people staying the night? cuz if someone was visiting me id have to offer them somewhere to stay..

is it strict? i get very grouchy.. i will be shouting at everyone to shut up.. that is if im drunk and then i will not be shouting to shut up, but to turn the music higher.

Were you doing the access thing? I was staying in avoca for the week

My friends lived in Leavey and were threatened to be kicked out once or twice. They even got written warnings and fines of €70 I think but they were never actually evicted from their apartment.

Just remember that most parties on campus end up being busted by the security. You'll learn all about that in the talks you get the first day! (good luck)

of course if your party isn't busted by security then it wasn't much of a party then was it?

Yeah, I know a few people who got warned and fined and such.Security can be quiet a pest, I remember being asked at about5 in the morning what I was doing walking around campus, I should have said selling drugs, they have no right to expect an honest answer seeing as they're just civi's.they shouldn't have the right to break into the apartment without permission. It makes me angry, You you play loud music while dancing naked, that'll show 'em.
