Becoming a pilot

I remember there was a thread on becoming a pilot a few months ago but I couldn't find it.

I saw a program about a flying school in Waterford on Nationwide a few weeks ago and it got me realy interested in the idea of becoming a pilot. They claimed you are more or less guranteed a First Officer at the end of your 14 months training.
This is them but I'm sure there are other training colleges in Ireland.

They didn't reply to my emails though which isn't encouraging.

I did a few flying lessons back in college but each hour was the equivalent of two weeks grant money so I couldn't carry on for a PPL.
Now I have a degree and work in financial services so I'd have no bother getting a job for the next few years and am a bit more financially secure.

It was always my dream to be a pilot but I had poor eyesight so I thought this would rule me out.
I had laser eye surgury 6 months ago and it was a complete success. Would this still rule out flying as a career?

Anyone on boards have any advice on integrated or modular course worth pursuing? I'm also found this site for any people in the same situation as myself

flyinginireland.com is your friend in this situation. I'm 3/4 of the way through the PPL, and will start the ATPLs at the end of next year. I hope to have it all done before I'm 30.

My best mate is doing the same, and he's had laser surgery. Unfortunately, he's had an issue with his eyesight they're currently investigating. The best bit of advice I can give you is to phone the Mater Private Hospital, book yourself in for a Class 1 Aeromedical exam. It's about 640 Euro, but if you pass it, then you're fine medically for the CPL license. There's no point in spending any money until you've passed the med.

One piece of advice, be nice to any rich relatives, the amount of money you have to spend on lessons to get the licences is huge, my brother had to give up after ten when he realised how much it would cost him to continue.

Unless it has changed recently you can kiss goodbye to an airline pilot career due to the laser eye surgery. Bizarrely however the RAF will still have you..
