I've tried going into all my software and I can't fix it....for example, I'm playing music in iTunes and I go onto a webpage with sound, the sound from the webpage will make me jump out of my chair it's so loud. How can I level the different volumes?

My brother (the engineer) told me that iPods (or at least the headphones) are decibel-reduced so they can avoid lawsuits for deafness in future years. It's possible Apple do something similar with iTunes?

I know that all mp3 players in the EU have a volume cap on them...but I don't see why they would reduce the volume in iTunes?

BTW this is a problem with all media players, I was giving iTunes as an example

Are you sure that all the sound volume bars are at comparable levels in the Control Panel - Volume control?

Also, check if the same sounds play at different levels in WMP as in ITunes. Have you messed with the equaliser settings in ITunes for example?

There is also an option to "normalise" all songs in ITunes - have you checked if this impacts on the sound volume?
