where can one pick this up?

i'm looking for it for my new build, i tried 7 different chemists today looking for it. they all knew what it was and tried to fob me off with buying nail varnish but i can't use any of that rubbish as they all have perfume in them.

so does anyone know where i can get pure 100% acetone?

Hmm probably a hardware store, best place to get 100% anyway like in the paint section I would imagine.

I'm open to correction here but if my memory serves me right nail varnish Remover is acetone.

yeah nail polish remover usually is 100% acetone. Thats what I use, and all chemists usually have it. Check the ingrediants next time, although the one I have has "100% acetone" emblazened across the front of it.

all the ones i saw in the chemists either had a **** load of ingriedents or had perfume in it.

which brand is the one that's "100% acetone" written on the bottle?

Depending on how much you need, you could try an opticians (they use it for cleaning the lenses) - not sure if they'd sell it to you tho......

if you know anyone in refrigeration who also does fiberglass work...they use to clean down all sorts of stuff. Its a great cleaner cause it cuts thru everthing and evaporates quickly leaving no residue.

just use in a well ventilated area or you`ll hit you head off the ceiling..:) :):)

You'll get a small bottle of acetone with head cleanin tapes. Dunnes or Tesco should have em.

You could just use methylated spirits for that couldnt you. Meths is basically 90-95% ethanol (ordinary alcohol) and 5-10% methanol (a toxic alcohol added to keep people from drinking it or something) and probably a dye as well.

Acetone and (Hydrogen) Peroxide are the key ingredients of TriAcetone TriPeroxide explosive, so some chemists are probably going to fob people off unless you persist and explain why you want it. You could also try laboratory suppliers, the ones that supply secondary schools.

Edit: Fixed a mistake pointed out by derek27.

what??? i can get 100% (~0.005%) acetone from any chemist in athlone, but have to sign each time i buy it. somebody mentioned methylated spirits which is also easily obtained from a chemist and will do the same job for you. but just to point out... the methyl alcohol is added in order to PREVENT people from drinking methylated spirits, not keep them drinking it. normal alcohol that we drink in our beer and spirits at the pub is ethanol. methylated spirits contains 95% ethanol and 5% toxic methanol, which is added to dissuade people from drinking/mixing it. although i have known of some people drinking it nonetheless (complete down-and-outs). if it was provided as 100% ethanol, the price would be about 40-fold. you can buy a 200ml bottle of methylated spirits for cf. €1.50. 200ml of pure ethanol is over €100

For removing labels and general cleaning of non electircal stuff Ambersil foam cleaner is yer only man.

Iso-propyl alcohol is what is used in head cleaner, not acetone. You can get iso-propyl alcohol from chemists and is great for cleaning keyboards and stuff that foam cleaner might kill

Switch cleaner (peats maplin radionics) is great for electricial contacts, like on cards and slots , plugs and sockes , it even does switches too

Most organic solvents have vapours heavier than air so if you putting wet stuff in a bucket will take longer to dry and form an explosion risk compared to not having it in an enclosed space.
