I'm about to lay out the spondulicks on 2x19" flat monitors but to be honest I don't really know what to look for in teh specs to let me know how they compare to each other or what to watch out for in real world terms.......any pointers?

Go for one of the Western Digital Mybook USB 2 External Hard Drives like I pointed out in the Bargain Alerts thread, cheap and fast, pretty good value. You can get them at Komplett.

As I said in my thread moved to laptops, you should change your name from Ruu to ubiquitous. You're everywhere!
I'd actually forgotten all about that thread in bargain alerts. Must be all the class A/B/C's.;)

So is that a quiet hard drive? I'm more inclined to a firewire connection than USB2 but I'll check it out.

:) Yep they are fine, not noisy at all, I believe you can get them with a firewire/usb 2 option. What size are you looking for? They come in a good variety of sizes.
