I have the basic NTL Digital and I am looking for a Hard disk PVR that will allow me to record/saving programmes to hard disk.
I'm not looking for a product with a DVD recorder, or a link to allow me to record to my PC hard drive. I have tried to find a product that is a stand alone Hard disk/Tuner to record from basic NTL and basic Digital NTL but I can't seem to find anything.

Can anyone give me some direction. All I want is the functionality of a video recorder but something that records to hard disk rather than casette.

    All advice appreciated.

That is an analogue terrestrial PVR, it will only work via the NTL decoder.
An S-VHS will give better quality. You will have no EPG etc for automatic recordings.

Only Telewest in UK offers a true cable PVR with cable tuner. You can't get one for ex-NTL now UPC yet.

So the analogue Hard Disk Recorders with DVD are best bet. You really need one with DVD Writer/player AND hard disk, as the Hard disk fills quickly.

It would be just like connecting to TV aerial. You can only connect to output of the NTL cable receiver/decoder. SCART plug sigannling may or may not work with selected EPG items. This method is erratic on a Sky receiver / EPG.

The only good solution is Cable Receiver with HDD built in, like a cable version of Sky+ or Sky HD. But UPC does not offer this yet.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I suppose I had hoped there was a glorified hard disk enclosure that I could pass a tv signal through and record to the disk. I will hold off as I think the DVD recorders would be no use to me. Although I have been alerted to other options but I will have to take a look and see if they provide what has been suggested.

    Cheers

in terms of pc with a hauppauge 150,
you can set up windows mce or one of the free linux things and it will do all of the above for you.

i use an old dell pc running mce connected to my ntl digital.
it ahs its own epg and can change channels on the ntl stb in order to record from it.

I have nearly found what I need only problem with this is it records to removable flash cards and I'm looking for the same device but with a hard drive. However it looks good.
