Presumably to placate the PDs. Please tell me this wouldn't be in addition to/competition with the DTA. Oh, sorry, competition is always a good thing, isn't it?

They'll no doubt get training from ComReg on how to be a successful regulator

Seriously though, if the DTA are given the power to regulate the bus market from the off
with DB getting the new buses on condition of certain terms of operation then it'll be a great start.
As to how profitable and non-profitable routes could be tendered out if DB didnt meet their targets, I have no idea.

AFAIR the DTA will be assuming power over Dublin Bus... so I presume they would have some sort of regulatative position over buses.

There's an interesting book out atm called Gridlock by James Wickham, it is very enlightening on subjects such as this.

We have been hearing this over the last couple of weeks, DB staff and CIE staff (pre 1987) getting a lump to go over to the DTA - more when we know.

Surely the staff stay with DB / CIE, merely that the companies report to the DTA like eircom reports to ComReg or the ESB reports to the CER.
