How do I start in the food/bar/hospitality?

    Hi,
I am an I.T. professional, in his mid thirties, who is sick to the back teeth of I.T. Where do I go from here?

I have been looking at the food/bar/hospitality industry as a possible career change, as I have a flair for food and drink and I was wondering where people think I should start?

I have no qualifications or professional experience, but I am a good cook, being practised at cooking high quality meals, for groups of up to about twelve.

I know a lot about world beers, having read many books on the subject, tasted all of the major and many of the more obscure styles and toured breweries in Belgium, the Czech Republic and Ireland. I even brew my own, microbrewery quality, beers.

I realize that I cannot expect to change careers and earn the same money as I am now, but I think job satisfaction is more important. I am willing to learn and would have no problem signing up to a training course, if I thought it would lead me in the right direction.

Any advice you could give me would be appreciated and I will endeavour to answer any questions people have.

    Thanks,
    S.

Maybe get a part time bar job first, and keep it along side your usual job.

Bar jobs are easy enohugh to get either just go in and talk to the manger, leave a cv in or apply on nixers.com.

It is definately the easiest one to start iwth anyway.

If its a qualification your after why not contact CERT (catering training body) and go from there. I can't remember but i think they do something like a 16 week part-time course, worth looking into.

I think the website is www.cert.ie... if thats wrong let me know.

    Sounds good.

Keep getting an error when I try to go to the website, even though google comes up with the same URL. I'll try it again later.
