UK Analog/DTT on South Dublin coast?

    I live in Shankill, close to the coast, and I've noticed quite a few people in the neighbourhood with aerials pointing out to sea (looks like directly east, or possibly slightly north of east). [edit...]

    A house very close by has an aerial like this (aerial)... does that mean that all these people are getting at least English analog channels from Wales? And possibly the Freeview channels?

    [Trying not to muddy this thread with two topics but..] One other technical question; If I had two aerials (1 pointing at 3Rock and the other pointing out to Wales) do I need to keep 2 separate co-ax cables from aerial to tuner? Or could I join them together up on the roof and bring down a single co-ax to 1 tuner to get all 4 Irish + UK Freeview channels? Basically would like to know if the signals/freqs would interfere with each other if on the one co-ax

    Directly East or North-East , surely? Depends on whether they are vertical or horizontally polarised. Horizontal is probably for Llandona in Anglesey and vertical could either be for Kilkeel or Arfon. Why not ask the neighbours? I do know some people in higher parts of South Dublin who have Divis, but generally Divis analogue is north of the airport and the interesting DTT channels are unfortunately cochannel with analogue Three Rock and only work further towards the Border....

    apologies :o Yes, I did mean "east".
    I'll gather some courage and call round to the neighbours.... soon.

    Any idea about joining two aerials with one co-ax and possible interference?

    You need filters on each aerial befor combining with a splitter, but it denps on the direction of the aerial and which channels you want and which channels there are.

    Well I have this aerial;

    it is horizontal and pointing due west at 3Rock. It is providing RTE1, RTE2, TV3 and TG4 both analog and digital.

    I'm thinking about getting this aerial
    22523i0.jpg
    to point due east to pick up the full Freeview service from Wales. [Assuming this is possible -> based on my neighbours aerial, but I will talk to him first]

    As I don't actually know which Welsh transmitter is due east of south Dublin I don't know what freqs, etc. I would need to pick up

    Never heard of anybody in Dublin getting Freeview.

    Come back and let us know how you did.

    Will do...

    Didn't get to talk to the neighbour over the weekend... his place is rather uninviting (large fence and gate, no doorbell, no letter box, you can't even see the house from outside the gates!) I'll have to check with some of the other neighbours to see if they have a name+phone number for this guy...

    BTW, his aerial (exactly like pic#2 above) is vertical and certainly pointing due east if that helps anyone determine which Welsh transmitter he is pointing at
