Not bad cards, would be good for a cheap sli setup if you already have one.

pci-e 6600GTs, 79.99 each new in Pc World. Saw about 20 of them today in Galway branch. They come with a free copy of Far Cry.

Sorry for the n00b question, but how would I go about checking if this care would be compatible with my exsting motherboard ?

I have an old eMachines computer, and am planning on upgrading when Vista comes out, but between now and then I'd like something good to play Counter strike on :)

If your motherboard has a PCI Express slot then it should work, how old are we talking about?

    Yep, definately GT's. And don't get started with their other prices, 120 for a 6200 turbocache, and 269 (!!!) for a 9600XT!

They were 120 a few weeks ago, then 99.99, and now 79.99 - they must have a huge excess of them. I don't know if they have them outside galway, they're marked as clearance stock here...

I have two 6600GTs in SLI and I wouldnt recommend it - it seems
to default back to using one card for most older games -
    eg. Farcry and Quake4

There are several different ways of running SLI (single card, render interlaced mode, render frame per card) and eg. in Farcry if I try to get them to run on two cards using any of the rendering options everything gets all jumpy and you actually frequently fall out of the game into space!

CSS plays ok - but only a little better than a 9800Pro AGP I had before
    (60 ish fps)

    Benchmarks test very good.

Unless someone can tell what Im doing wrong with sli?

Using most recent and also currently latest (Beta) drivers from NVidia-
and I watercooled both graphic cores as the stock fans on mine were very noisy.
