Ramadan 2006, 24 September thru 23 October (from google not sure if accurate!). But apparently the end time can shift a bit, something to do with the moon! Looks like you’ll be fine, have you got the flights already? , if you get the flights and hotel from somewhere like lastminute.com it can be quite cheap. I would recommend getting a hotel in the city with a free shuttle to the beach, don’t think there’s any need to go to Dubai to lie on a beach for a week!

I was in Dubai last January and we stayed on the beach (One and Only Royal Mirage) and had a fantastic time. There was a free shuttle to the city, although cabs are really really cheap if you don't want to make all of the stops a shuttle would make.

I don't know much about the areas of the city, but some of them are areas you wouldn't want to stay in. Not dangerous, but not kept up all that nicely. Do your research before you go.

I would recommend that you have a look here : http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g295424-i872-Dubai.html

From what I can gather , You shouldnt drink or eat in public during daylight hours , however in all the Hotels drink and food are served , also there are huge banquets each evening to celebrate .( As Ali G said " with every low , there is a high" )

    Trip Advisor is your friend
    www.tripadvisor.com

Seriously its very simple-type in your dates and see what hotels are available, then read the reviews posted by guests and look at pictures. It gives a fair idea of other peoples experiences in hotels. Obviously take them with a pinch of salt, but if all the reviews say that the food is awful, or the hotel is in a dangerous area, chances are it may be.

I stayed in Oasis beach hotel right on the beach in June this year. It is a four star hotel and very relaxed and friendly. The only problem was it was surrounded by building work but if you get a sea view you will not be affected and when you leave the hotel there are taxis outside, The beach is a good drive from the city and traffic gets very heavy in the evening it took us one hour to get into the city in a taxi one night but most times you will do it in half hour.(taxis are cheap ,less than 20 euro from airport to hotel took 1 hour) The beach is beautiful so you have to decide if you want to stay in the city or beach. The city is huge so you will need a taxi most times.Do some research before you go all the bars are in hotels, the taxi drivers will know the name of the hotel but not the names of the bars. When you get there pick up a copy of TimeOut it will give you all the info you need. Some bars have happy hours when the girls get free drinks. Time out will tell you where or look up there website

Thanks Moby. How much did it cost youto stay there?

The beach seems more expensive than the city.

Like the beach but all the hotels are in the thousands!!!!

Tell me this did u bring $'s with you.I heard you get more for the $ than you do for € over there when you exchange.Something to do with oil prices?????

The beach is more expensive to stay at .I paid about 230Euro a night half board in Oasis beach (superior sea view). Oasis have just opened new apartments across the road and they are out of this world, plasma tv, maids room, really high class. We got a tour of the apts and they were doing a really great opening offer on them for about 1 third of the regular price. might be worth checking out. www.oasisbeachtower.com .You dont have to bring dollars euros are changed everywhere .the Dirham rate is fixed to the dollar so you will be changing twice.
