    Hi folks,

Im hoping to take up Archery in Ballina in the next few weeks. Im looking for advice on what bow to buy. Should I go with a recurve or a compound bow? Im a 28 year old male and any advice would be appreciated.

Best thing to do (IMHO) is start on recurve and give it a year or two. Its cheaper and if you find you don't like archery then the expence is minimised. I changed from recurve to compound recently after about 4 years of recurve. Doing this, I found that compound came naturally enough, don't think it would work the other way around! Also, there are more recurve shooters than compound and therefore a larger knowledge base to tap into.

In short, I reckon you should go for recurve to learn the sport. In time (if you want) you can switch.

If you're only taking up archery for the first time, the best thing to do is go to a club. Most clubs do beginner courses and that way you can try the sport out with minimal expense. This would all be with club equipment (recurve only). Off hand, the closest target club to you i can think of is in ballaghadreen (dont get picky about spelling), but as far as i'm aware there's a field club in mayo somewhere.
