Hard Disk Partitions

    Hello everyone,
It would be great if somebody could help me please. My computer is blue screening. It's because of my hard disk. I had got my hard disk split in 2, one partition for windows and one for suse 9 linux. Everything working rosey. But my windows partition started filling up and I never used my linux one, so using a partition manager on the suse cd I deleted my linux partition and resized my windows one to use the rest of the partition. Everything seemed fine for a while, but then i started to get the blue screen of death, and it only really seemed to happen when copying files on to this drive. Since then my computers been getting slower and i often get the bsod.

I decided then it was time to back up my partition (the wrong time to decide this). So i backed it up to a usb hard disk using the windows backup thingy, and this worked without error. But what can i do with this one backup file?

I also bought another larger hard disk that i intend on using as my primary hard disk. I used hdclone to try and copy my old hard disk to my new one. It worked for the first few hours, but then it started getting read errors at 98% and going slowly, so slowly i calculated it would have taken a month to finish
So I reckon there's something up with the way i resized the partitions. Can you answer me this.......
If i use the partition manager to resize back DOWN to in or around where it was originally will that have any benefit?
Or.......can i install windows on my new hard disk and then somehow swap the partition on the old disk over to the new disk as the main partition? Or will i still have the same problems with the **** at the end of the partition.

Note: hdclone got to around the 330m sector of 334m.

Thanks for reading all this if you've got down this far. Anyway, ANY advice would be greatly received. I really need to keep this original installation of windows so shout ideas please!
    Thanks

To restore the backup you've made, this page should help http://www.argentuma.com/backup/software/windows-backup.html. I'm not sure how to get to this "Backup & Restore Wizard" though, because my windows machine is less a PSU at the moment. Also, I'm sure a surface scan wouldn't go wrong if you're getting errors.... By the way what are you using to resize the partitions?

    Hey,
Thanks for your reply. I'm gonna read that link now. I'm not exactly sure what the name of the tool i'm using to resize the partitions is. Its on the installation cd for suse 9.

Has anybody else out there got any advice for me?

    Thanks

I reckon PartitionMagic would be useful, as I don't know how good other tools are for resizing partitions that have data on them already...
