Just wondering what the shopping is like for Xmas in Brussels? I know there are a lot of fashion/clothes shops but what about markets/gifts etc? Thanks

In Grand Place in December there is an ice rink and there are loads of stalls that form a Christmas market. I went a couple of years ago to celebrate new year's eve and the place looked fantastic. Can't remember too much about the market.

It really depends on what you're looking for, but i'd take a look around ave louise and place stephanie, where there are loads of shops and galleries. The rue neuve has nothing but clothes shops, but take a look if thats what you're after. There's also the galleries de la reine by the grande place, which are pretty if pricy and full of gift shops (though thronged with tourists most of the time) If you head over to the Mannekin Pis (one of Belgiums most famous boys) be sure to pick up a corkscrew in the worst possible taste...But over by the grand sablon there are lots of chocolate shops- take a look at Pierre Marcolini- the best chocolate I've ever had in Belgium- its an amazing shop, and brilliant for gifts too.
