    Hi All,

I done a second interview for a job last week. They told me it was down to me and one other person.. This was last Tuesday and thet told me they'd let me know by Friday.. It is now Wednesday the following week and haven't heard anything. Is it a good/bad idea to contact them to ask them what the story is? It has been a long dragged out process the whole way though.. Any advice would be appreciated!!

    Yes - contact them!

What they usually do is contact the person who got the job, and hold off on contacting those who didn't until the first person accepts. I'd say this is what's taken place here.

As the saying goes "dont call us.... we'll call you". I think this is the case with a lot of companies. Chances are is your waiting any longer than 3 weeks to hear back the job is gone.

I would agree with what 'testicle' says. It might take a few days to get an agreement with a first choice candidate before contacting you. That's normally been how any recruitments I've been involved with have been conducted (although we were more timely than a week).

Another possibility that I have seen before (I was the candidate) is that a senior manager has been away and the recruitment has been delayed as final sign off was theirs despite not interviewing the candidate. I got the job and in this case the HR department were sufficiently polite as to make courtesy calls to the candidates within a week to explain the delay.

If I were in your position I'd make a polite follow-up call by the end of the week.

If they've said "we'll let you know by X" and this date has passed then you're perfectly entitled to enquire as to the situation imho.

Give them a ring or email to find out what is going on, they will be glad you are keen. Tell them that you are really excited about the job. This may even make them reconsider offering you a job if they had been about to turn you down.

Once, I was waiting for weeks. They eventually got back to me and explained that it was due to people being away on hols, etc. That was in France. I got the job.

Dont contact them if you have the job they will tell you and if not you should receive confirmation that you did not,

It's always a good practice to send a "Follow-up Letter" thanking them for the interview and telling them you are interested in the position.
If you haven't done this yet, now would be a good time to do so.

    Good luck!

Sizzler, the_porn_baby, dragging petty crap like that which got you warned in Radio into other forums makes it a site-wide matter. If necessary it will be dealt with in a site-wide manner.

    I don't repeat warnings.
