Anyone seen this? New show from Aaron Sorking, creater of The West Wing. Excellent writing, fast paced dialogue, shows a lot of promise!

Given that this is a .ie website, it hasn't been on TV yet !!!

I hear tell that Channel 4 are going to show it on more4 first but I haven't found out when. Anyone here know ?

NBC starts showing it September 18th, and Channel 4 are saying "the new year", according to the BBC.

I'm looking forward to it. I loved The West Wing, and really enjoyed Sports Night when abc1 were showing it up until recently. This could be a really good mix of the experiences of the two.

i wonder if it will translate well over here. Judging from the pilot its a bit too inside tv and The West Wing was like that and it never really caught on.

But i will be watching on Channel 4 and More 4 this January.

It's on their Autumn campaign trailer, the one with the robot TVs in a kind of Soviet May Day parade

Good to see TV3 back buying decent American shows again. IMO they've bought v little good stuff for ~5 yrs. The split from ITV may be a blessing in disguise cause they'll stop leaning on ITV for most of there schedule. It's also a bit of proper competition for the RTE boys on American drama so maybe RTE stop screwing over good programmes too.

Anyway back on point I loved West Wing it was the smartest, best acted, best written pure drama on TV for 4/5 of its 7 years. If this is half as good i'll be glued to it. Really expecting something from Sorkin now after him going of the rails there a while ago. Looking forward with hope

Studio 60 got of to a brilliant start in ratings terms last night with a second place finish in its timeslot. 13.39 million viewers vs. CSI:Miami's 17.21 million viewers.

The debut of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which finished a solid second behind CBS’ CSI: Miami with a 10.3/16 in the overnights, 13.39 million viewers and a 5.0/13 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m.

The one positive point immediately worth noting for Studio 60 was retention out of the last half-hour of Deal or No Deal (Overnights: 11.3/16; Viewers: 18.10 million; A18-49: 6.0/14) of 91 percent in the overnights and 83 percent among adults 18-49.

Potentially concerning for Studio 60, however, was a loss of audience at 10:30 p.m. off 11 percent in the overnights (10.9/16 to 9.7/15), 2.37 million viewers (14.57 to 12.20) and 15 percent among adults 18-49 (5.4/13 to 4.6/12).

The whole point of it is that is an insiders view.
I am looking forward to this esp after read the script of the polit.
It will be intresting to see the politics of behind the scenes and why american media is so restricted.

Just watched Episode 3 of 3 out there and loved every one. Very happy to have some Sorkin material back on TV ;)

Another fan here. Very impressed with the casting, thought I'd hate Matt Perry in a new Sorkin thing (never liked his character on West Wing) but so far so good! :)

I'm losing interest in this show week after week.. and with advance reviews for tonight's episode beingvery poor, i'll probably tune out soon!

It's not dramatic enough to be a drama.. not a whole lot has happened in the last 3 episodes. Practically all story development / drama was in episode 1 with Matt and Danny.

And it's really not funny enough.. yes, the dialogue gets an mild chuckle outta me but that's about it. No episodes have matched the first episode in terms of downright excellent funny dialogue.

But you've the die-hard Sorkin fans who will support this show through many seasons... and i think Sorkin's writing is some of the best in TV but i'd be lying if i said the writing here was even close to the standard of 'The West Wing'

I've seen the first 3 and it just hasn't engaged with me in the way the West Wing did when it started. Maybe it is cos the West Wing was so refreshingly good when it started. It has raised the bar so AS would have to do something special to make the same impact with S60.

Also, maybe, behind-the-scenes TV doesn't engage me as much as politics. I'll continue with it but, as mentioned before, I can't see this one going to 7 series.

I agree,I thought episode 1 was great, funny and good story development. Episodes 2 and 3 were average at best. It does need more comedy. I know it is not meant to be an out and out comedy, but even the west wing was a lot funnier. So far it pales in comparison to the West wing. Maybe it will get better,I still have 2 more eps on the pc ready to watch, but I don't find myself wanting to watch them. Which is not a good sign.

The ratings are also dodgy,it might not last the season.

Yeah I like this. I've seen the first two episodes and I'm looking forward to catching the rest.

Typical Sorking stuff, just so intelligent and quick witted.

If only some network would take on the West Wing....suppose we can live in hope :)

I've been checking this out every week and it's ok...nothing amazing happened yet to get me fully hooked. It's certainly watchable but a few things stick out to me as bad, the sketches that are shown are really unfunny so it's hard to believe that it's doing really well (in the show). In real life the ratings have dropped week by week, I'll keep watching but I don't holdmuch hope for a 2nd series, and I'm not sure if it would bother me if there wasn't one.

.. kinda like Saturday Night Live then ;) .. ?

I'm watching this, and also re-watching series 1 of West Wing on more4. One thing that annoys me about Sorkin's writing is when humorous scenes end with one of the characters saying 'Okay' with a rising inflection. They're doing it on Studion 60 too and, IMHO, it's just lazy writing.

So... Basically its a remake of Sports Night?

I watched an episode of this last night. I'm in the states on holidays at the mo. I agree with the ok thing; there was a bit too much of that.
I thought it was ok for a first look at a tv series. I would cetainly watch some more.
I find it hard to dis-associate some of the characters from TWW though. Danny with no beard? (If anyone should be saying ok all the time; mit's him. He was the best at it!)
Bradley Whitford's hair is just awful and Matthew Perry? What's he doing in it? I think he's the weakest character by far.

Like I said, it merits more watching which I think it deserves.

The newest episode (6) was really good, so hopefully it won't falter back to having nothing happen every week and develop these characters like they are beginning to. Although it's taken 6 episodes to do that which is not good.

Hah, its funny, i actually really enjoyed this weeks episode when techincally there was nothing of the actually sketch show on in it. Interesting, hmmmm.

There were lots of rumours circulating that the show was going to be cancelled but NBC have given it a vote of support - for now at least.

The always reliable Michael Ausiello reports it's got a full season..

.. the show still winds away quite unimpressively in my eyes!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

That's a surprise,I didn't think it would last. It hasn't been great,of what I have seen so far (4 eps), but Sorkin is good and I like Perry and Whitford. Hopefully it will get better.

Last week could have been a great episode
after the revelation in the opening scenes of the always fantastic John Goodman guest-starring and with Tom Jeter being arrested in a Jesus outfit
and it then winds back to reveal the lead-up to what happened..

AND.... it wasn't remotely interesting! :(
