I work for a mobile phone replication software company.
we just got this in this morning:
    http://www.practicalist.com/archives/000183.html

The phone owner had set our software to automatically upload all photos taken by his phone to his flickr account. His phone got stolen but the software is still running. You can see photos of the thiefs car and family.

The guy seems pretty light-hearted about it... quite nice. Also, the thief has a quality car.

Assuming its actually his car and he didn't just take a photo of it because he thought it looked cool :)

Wonder if the plates are traceable?

Thatsd classic! All the time an effort that was spent on that was unreal. Next time I lose my phone in a taxi I'll have to do that!

I love this story, now for him totake a picture of his ID, they always do!

    this is completly true.
not to pimp my own work, but the software is called ShoZu (www.shozu.com)

we've been thinking all morning to figure out how to get more info about the guy. we don't have geotagging of photos yet and unfortunetly we recently (before this client release) stripped down a lot of the info we take from the phone for privacy reasons.

We have a automatic contacts replication option in that client version so we're looking to see if the thief replicates any phone contacts (if its turned on it'll do it automatically to the original owners account on shozu.com).

How do you know the person taking the photos is actually the thief in question? Unfortunaly I seriously doubt this could be basis for any proceedings... still damn handy though .. if only I could get my car keys to do this ;)

Perhaps he took a photo of the car right before he stole it aswell!!

Perhaps he sold the phone on and the person taking the photos doesn't realise it's a stolen phone? Not likely but still possible!
