    All,
I was wondering if its legal.... Imagine a straight road with a filter lane to turn right, with its own traffic light.

Is it legal to make that right turn when the filter light is green and the going straight light is green, while the road is empty coming against you?

Would it make a difference if the filter light had only Green and amber?

Ive been driving for years, I error on the side of ignorance but as you know on a bike its so tempting....

    Kind regards

Yes, of course. Why wouldn't you turn if the light was green?

No. If the "going straight light" and there is no oncoming traffic, you may proceed.

    no,
cant turn right on a red light.
the only time theres a red light, as far as i know, is when theres a green man on the road your turning right onto.
this means your cutting off a pedestrian.

if the filter light only has green and amber, then its green to turn right.

Then the answer is no. What Subway said is right.

A green traffic light with an arrow means "You may proceed in the direction of the arrow only". So if there is an arrow for straight ahead and nothing else, you may proceed only straight ahead.
A full green light without arrows means that you may proceed through the junction (with caution), provided that the road signage does not otherwise prohibit you from going in a certain direction.

When you have a full green light, and no right or left arrow (but the facility is there for them), then you may go right or left.
When you have a arrow to go straight ahead, nd no right or left arrow (but the facility is there for them), then you may only proceed straight ahead.

As someone else pointed out, if there's a green to go straight, and no green to turn, it usually means that pedestrians have a green light, or other traffic has right-of-way on the road into which you wish to turn.

In America however you are allowed to turn right at a junction, even if the light is red, provided there's no traffic coming. (I learned this the hard way - sitting at a junction with my indicator on waiting for green and a row of cars behind me blowing thier horns :D

And also when pedestrians have the "walk" sign. I learned this the hard way also - as a pedestrian

A word of warning though: This rule differ from state to state. What's legal in one state might not be legal in the next. There are usually signs telling you which is true, but don't assume anything. The cops WILL bust you for this and they'll show no mercy and usually no understanding for you being from out of town.
