Weight Gaining tips

    Hi
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on gaining weight. There is plenty of advice out there for losing it but nothing for gaining it. I’m 6'2 but weigh only 73kg. I find it hard to eat the right amounts of food and at the right times because I work nights. I usually only get in 1 full meal and a few snacks 4 days a week (sometimes I don’t even get that in). On the other 3 days I try to eat as much as possible but get fed up of trying too much at times. Can anyone advice me on the best foods to eat and at what intervals? If anyone has a set weekly diet made up for gaining weight I would be interested in seeing it. Hope someone can help as I am planning on taking up Martial arts and weights soon but I know that I am not going to gain any muscle without the weight.
    Jamie

P.S. I am a smoker (At the moment) and smoke around 15 - 20 a day. I don’t drink. I am also always tired which is why I am taking up the Martial Arts and Weight lifting. Time to turn over to a healthier lifestyle.

Taking up MA? Cut out the smoking, for starters.

Yeah the smoking can curb your appetite, taking the edge off. When I was trying to gain a few years ago, someone told me "just eat when you're hungry" and I did, and it worked! Up until then I had scheduled meal times. It was an awful annoyance to my mother to have me running in and saying "Hey Ma, got any more chicken?", but I went up to a steady 88kgs (I walk around about 78kgs now)

You're quite light for your size alright. My advice is to start the martial arts and the weights first and the appetite will kick in soon afterwards.

when u talk about putting on weight i assume you mean muscle and not fat..
you say you get one meal and 4 snacks.. im not to sure what you mean by snacks or meals so tell us exactly what your eating.

I would consider using weights to build muscle and try take in 6 meals per day.. this is quiet easy the only problem is if your not dedicated to cooking ur meals beforhand and getting them ready this is easily why u are finding it hard. you could also use meal replacement shakes found at any nutrition shop i recommened going to pro nutrition in phibsboro the lads there will look after you. ur diet should consist of about 40% carbs 40% protien and 20% fats.

Diet is everything man. you also get to train hard and rest well it all comes together
