    I saw a reference to 'word of the day' but couldn't find the thread so presumably it has fizzled out, could I fan it back into life with

    ullage - the amount of liquid by which a container fails to be full. (It also has a meaning relating to evaporation from a container).

    I posted a thread a few days ago about being served a cup of coffee which was well short of the top of the cup, I'm delighted to know there is a word to describe this shortage.:)
