Just saw this on the net :

    http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/std/sku=dellconverter

wondered if anyone has ever used something like this on their Dell PC.

I assume it a just a "plug and play" adapter once you have a new higher wattage supply.?

    Any opinions on it?

Which Dell are you thinkin bout using it in? Newer Dell mobo's (most p4's and newer) have Atx connections. Bout time they conformed to common standards.

Its an old pentium 3 system. Dimension XPS-T450 (1999) that has been upgraded to 1.4 Celeron. Old PSU is 200W and on last legs. So was looking at this along with a new standard PSU (not a waste of money seeing that I wil always have it to sell/build own PC).

Notes: If you are unsure if your Dell requires one of our Dell Power Supply Adapters, please take a close look at the Dell motherboard pictured at the top of this page and see if your motherboard has the extra connector pictured on the left. Also Some Dell machines chassis may need to have material removed to make room for a standard power supplies ON/OFF switch.

Even if you rewire it, will it actually fit in the chassis?

    Darando,

We've used these for replacing power suppliers in old XPS and Dimension towers and they work just fine. The problem you will have(as TS suggests) is the case. You'll have a small bit of cutting to line up the holes and to remove bits of metal protruding into the case. It's a 5 minute job and I've found an angle grinder the easiest way of making the changes, although I've no doubt you could use a hacksaw or tin snips instead.

Just to add, I've put up to a standard 500w ATX into an xps.

You'd probably buy a exact duplicate machine for €20-30. No warranty though.
