To take the job or not take the job?

Im a recent graduate and went for an interview last week for a position I was intrested in. I wasnt really planning on taking the job if i was sucsessful as I have plans to do some travelling in South East Asia over the coming weeks. But the interview went really well and i like the company and it offers good potential promotions and has good work conditions.
Im going to SE asia next week and was planning on staying until 1st november.

But alas today the company i did the interview with rang me and told me I got the job. They offered me a decent salary (not great but not bad) but the opportunites that are within the company are great.
The problem is they want me to start the job on the 15 October, which means cutting short my trip and letting down my friends. We have been planning this since last year and I had a bad accident earlier this year which ment prosponing the trip and the thought of it is one of the things that got me through.

So now I have a dilemma: Do I take the job and cut short the trip of a lifetime of do I leave the job for now and look for one when I get home?

The company wont budge on the starting date as they have a big project starting then that they want me involved in.

Any advice or thoughts would be great.

To be honest, its only 2 weeks or a bit more that you are cutting off your trip. Your friends will understand. Go on the hols, come back, start the job. Best of both worlds.

Take the job, you can go travelling again. Cut short the trip.

and congrats by the way. You have a new job and a holiday to look forward to in the near future. Many people would love that!

Ye i would enjoy the trip more knowing that I have a job to come home to (to start paying off the debt im going to go into!) and it may be harder to get a job coming up to xmas.

The only problem is the lads I am going with were ment to go in August, but said they would wait till September so i could fully recover from my accident, so i feel im being a bit of a dick by throwing it in their faces.

Im going to try maybe pushing the start date by another week, but i dont want to push it to far as I havent even started yet!

Tell them you have a holiday booked and paid for and would it be ok to start Nov 1st. Cannot see them having any issues with that. Most people would have to give 1 months notice at work anyway.

    I say take the job.
I was in the same situation in June - didn't go on a 2 week holiday but my friends understood. The job was/is still great.
2 weeks is nothing plus it's not like you're leaving one friend stranded in SEA, it sounds like there'll be a bunch of them.

Went to south east asia last year. was a blast so go for at least a little bit anyway. Your friends will understand - a good job is not that easy to come by after graduating

If it's a graduate programme they do group training at the beginning, usually for a few weeks - in a lot of places. So they may not be flexible with the start date.

They have a big project starting on the 16th (I think) and they need me to work on it,thats why its not flexible.
