Basically you simply approach a restaurant or hotel and they may be able to help you out. I used to be a chef and if i had my time again i would have put a bit more thought into where i wanted to work initially as once you work in one type of establishment it can be difficult to break out of it. For example if there are some 'good' or 'classy' establishments near you maybe approach them first. Sometimes the more quality an establishment is the more difficult it is to get a job there and if you are lucky enough to get a job then you may not earn much money. But the plus side of this is that if you have worked in a quality establishment it will be easier to get further work as you will be more employable.

Best of luck with it - i think its one of the best careers to have. You can travel with it, and in all honesty once you are qualified you will never be out of work unless by choice - everyone has to eat and these days everyone wants to eat out!!

    Thanks for the info.

I'm thinking of it as a summer job for next summer, I've just turned 16 but I assure you I'm a lot more capable than any other teen my age.

If you are applying in writing for any positions - be sure to spell it correctly, i.e., "commis".

Wooops, I googled it and results came up for "commie" so I expected it was that spelling, sorry!
