Possible Virus??

    Hi folks,

In an earlier thread I had mentioned that some file had vanished from my desktop. I wasn't sure if it was a virus or not as AVG wasn't detecting anything.

But I have noticed lately that explorer crashes alot. (not internet explorer). Also, Adware scanning and virus scanning now crashes half way through.

I was talking to a friend and she says she has been having a similar prob lately.

Aswell as that I notice that if I do a google search and click on on of the results it opens up a completely different site with ads.

Do you reckon this is a virus and if so how come AVG isn't detecting it.

    Thanks for your help!

It could be a few things, AVG (or any anti-virus) scanner will not detect everything. When explorer crashes, does it just restart again or do you get an error report message? Have you tried an AV scan in safe mode?

Post up a log using hijackthis and some of us will comb through it for you and see if theres an issue there. I can't remember but were you the one with 600+ viruses? :)

Ok, download and run this, read the tutorial on the same page about how to post up the log. It will help users analyse your system better and see what programs are running. Post the log when you have it.

Save it to a text file and then attach the text file to your post.

At first glance nothing stands out.

Although you have a proxy set in IE. Any reason for this?

You'd have reinstalled a clean XP by now rather than messing around with it.

I would??? Eh no I haven't! I am not sure whether your saying I should have done it by now or that you mean your recommend that I do that!

It is looking like I could do with formating the drive and reinstalling windows.

I just need to find the drives for the NTL modem.
