I have signed up to skydsl's one-way fast internet by satellite service. I intend to attempt to install the dish myself (possibly a crazy notion for a guy who has trouble wiring a plug) so I was hoping that you guys could give me some advice on a few things.
Firstly, the appropriate LNB. The skydsl website says that a digital LNB that covers the frequency range 950 to 2150 MHz is required. Would this one be appropriate?
Also, from reading other posts it seems to me that the cheaper satellite finders (i.e. the 14.99 Euro jobs) are useful for locating all satellites rather than a particular satellite. Is this correct? I believe that the correct satellite for skdsl is Atlantic Bird 2 at 8 degrees West. Is this difficult to locate using the cheaper meters?
Finally, satellite dish size. Skydsl recommend an 80cm dish but I am tempted to splash out for a 1m dish. Are there any issues I should be aware of with larger dishes.

    Thanks for reading.

    Any ordinary LNB will do
Easier to find 5 West. View French TV on the PC CARD (see www.lyngsat.com for frequecies)

Then move 3 degrees west to next peak in signal

Only Very expensive professional meter tells you which satellite.

Ordinary mortals try tuning in to see if guess is OK

8W is nearly due south if you in MidWest of Itreland

Larger dishes are harder to align and 1m is much much biffer wind loading.

    80cm is fine

Download ProgDVB for watching TV on the card.

Note that in long run this can be slower and morexpensive than twoway satellite as you need to beconnected all the time you use it by dialup too.

Often download is 100k to 200k

    I use sky dsl on a 55cm dish pointed at e-bird 33e.
If you have sky you could use a single dish for 33e and 28e
    (using an 80cm dish and 2 lnb's

one way satellite may not be as fast as 2 way and will cost more for heavy internet user's but it is still a better alternative to standered dialup.

also one way satellite has a much better response time than 2 way
