i've recently moved to Douglas in Cork with my girlfriend and we're both interested in starting some sort of martial arts and both looking to do it together. Has anyone got any suggestions what to look into or where to start lopoking. It kinda needs to be physical enough from my perspective but not too physical from hers. ANY help would be greatly appreciated....so fire any info out there!

Theres a thread on MMA in cork. Which girls tend to favour less tbh what with the wrestling and all. Pity. :(

Thai boxing on the other hand is great. http://www.corkthaiboxing.com

well thanks all for your help. very helpful. I was wondering Quillo if anyone cant attend classes in UCC or do you have to be a student?
Columok does the cork thai boxing cater for beginners would you say and would it be suitable for male and female? have you any idea of cost? The website link you gave me doesnt seem to be easy to get around.
really appreciate the help though thanks

Yeah i know i think its undergoing frontpage reconstruction. :)

I would say that thaiboxing is often used by people for fitness reasons so its suitable for all kinds. Clubs train all levels. Also the level of contact and physicality can be adjusted to the individual. Dunno about cost. You could try the following details off Irish Thai Boxing

Enjoy it. You'll both be in great shape and having fun in no time.

I live 2mins from Douglas, and there's a wealth of martial arts around, vast majority is complete rubbish though:rolleyes: Id strongly recommend Cork Thai-Boxing club on Douglas street, the beginners class is 6:15-7:30 Mon-Thurs, Friday 7pm and saturday 12pm....It's 6euro a class. In regards to martial arts, thai boxing has the best cardio on the planet and is a fairly addictive sport

The Thai boxing club on Douglas street has a good reputation if that's what you'd like to get into.

There are also a variety of TKD clubs located throughout the city. The INTA has clubs in Passage West (close to Douglas), Turner's Cross, Wilton, Glanmire and Ballincollig.

The long-established Olympic Karate club on Shandon Street is also an option.

Just check out the classes, try a few and see which appeals to you the most.
