There is no Freeview card. Freeview is the UK DTT system, needs no card.

You mean a UK FTV card (free To View), currently marketed as "Freesat from Sky" or such like.

It is only available to a N.I./UK post code address. It will work perfectly in your box and add ONLY C4, Five and Sky3. Costs about £21 and may last 2 to 5 years. No-one really knows.

Your cancelled irish SUB card should be working for SKy3.

TO see all BBC TV and Radio and all ITV, go to Sky News, 501
Press interactive (Text or Red). When interactive loads remove your Sky card and do not insert anything.

Press backup and ignore any warning/error messages. The UK EPG will load (without C4 and Five).

To view Sky3, insert Irish card and select Guide.

Is there anywhere on the net that you can buy a freesat card. Ebay keeps canceling the sale if i win a bid on ebay.

Because they belong to Sky/NDS. Thus illegal to sell on eBay.

Tecnically they can only be obtained from Sky, but agents / proxies in UK can pay for one for you.

I have recently purchased a Sky Free to View Card through my sister in the UK; however, when I insert it into SkyDigibox and try to activate it, it fails. On a document which accompanied the card, I am informed that I must contact Sky, via a phone number provided, so as to activate the card.
Can anyone provide a solution to activate the card, as I doubt Sky will activate it, as I am resident in Cork, Ireland.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Contact via PM

    Regards,
    John Walsh

John , never publish your email address on open forum. You should remove it, for your own security.

Normally to Activate you just leave it in overnight on Sky News 501. Or 24hrs

Failing that, call on a mobile.

    Give your sisters Address.

you need to ring sky if the card has never been active...

give your sisters address and your own box serial number...make sure you use private number so they don't know you are calling from Ireland...

and never, ever plug the box into a phone line with the card in...

When calling them I think if you first enter 141 followed by the sky number then it will come up as a blocked number on their end.

Or you could get your sister to call and activate it. Just give her the new Card number, your box's Version number and serial number (These can all be got via Services, 4, 5). It might be particularly good if she calls, if the card is in her name.

Byte's suggestion is good. They'll probably want her address, too. That's of no consequence. There's no way they can tell where the Digibox is (unless you connect it to a phone line). Make sure the box is connected up when she calls, so it receives the signal and passes it to the card.

    Regards,

As I see it you have two choices and any other suggestions wont help.
Either you ring Sky give the box details and your sisters address or she rings Sky with box details. The box details can be got in services. Make sure the box is turned on when call is made and card should be activated fairly quickly. Do not have a phone line plugged into the box.

Just a quick question in relation to a second sky box that I have. I wanted to use this as a free to air box in the coming weeks. Will it work FTA without a card or does it need a card to work? I thought once I reset the box to UK settings it would not require the card?

the card will only add channel 5 and some other associated channels....

itv , c4 , more 4 and e4 are all now free without a card...

I think it will work, once it has a signal, however it will not show Channels 4, more4, E4 or any of the Ch 5 stations.

If you want it activated I may be able to help you out, but it would involve you posting it down to me in waterford. I have a dialer, which enables me to activate these cards through the phone line. PM me if you want me to do it for you. I'm sure there are a few guys on here who could vouch for me been trustworthy.

From 18th Nov 2008, FreeSat From Sky/Sky FTV card concept is basically dead as C4 and Five are Free & un-encrypted.

have channel 4 is on the EPG lineup and I have 5 in the extra channels. Does this mean that 5 will be on the EPG after the 18th?

Anyone buy and activate a Freeview By Sky card lately?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,907 ✭✭✭✭Kristopherus

This thread is over 2 yrs old and could be closed by a mod, but to answer your question, all you have to do now is insert the card and it should work straight away. No activation needed.

I had to phone up sky to activate my card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 603 ✭✭✭jonnygee

I bought 2 cards, one was a replacement for a blue ex sub card and this did not need activation. the other was a new freesat from sky card and required a phone call to activate

Hi, When you contact SKY do they ask "where in the UK you are located" or do they now activate all cards; regardless of where one resides?

If you give them a N.I postcode, ch 101 will be BBC 1 N.I. If you give them a Liverpool postcode, you will get BBC 1 North West. If you give them a London postcode, you will get BBC 1 London. May be the same with ITV. I posted earlier in this thread that you don't need activation. I got my card through a family member in Liverpool. When I got it, I just stuck it in my Sky+ box and it worked, so I have assumed its the same with them all. I got mine last Sept.
