Hi, i'm a writer, i'm looking to get some experience in the world of being paid to do what i love, aka writing, i understand i have few credits to my name so i'm basically looking to build up a portfolio as diverse as possible.

My punctuation etc., despite this hastily left message are actual of a printable standard. ~Anyway, ideally i'd like to do some freelance work for a zine, e-zine, something of that nature, but i WILL consider anything as i'm trying to push myself to do new things.

I'm situated near Dublin, am 19, F, doing english and media and cultural studies in dliadt, have diverse intrests and hobbies (and consequently some interesting life experience) and would love to hone my craft, any work would be greatly appreciated.

For anymore details or clarifications, please don't hesitate to pm me.

    Thanks.

It will probably be difficult for you to find paid work in writing from the get-go, but it's not impossible.
For the moment the easiest route are online publications; try places like Oxygen.ie for example..
Depending on what kind of stuff you're looking to write you might be able to hassle the relevant publications (or newspaper/magazines sections) to try and get commissions for features... pick a topic you know plenty about and see if people are interested... if it's a relatively unheard of issue then they probably will be; many publications like to cover issues that are going on in Ireland to show how diverse the place can be!

Other than that try your best to get work experience somewhere, anywhere, really... and have patience.
I've recently finished a journalism degree and was lucky enough to get a few articles published in the last few months... the money isn't great but it's enough to keep me going while my portfolio grows and I get better at what I'm doing!
College publications, if available, and freesheets like Totaly Dublin might be good to suss out too!

    Hi,
I just saw this post now, and I am interested in getting some experience as a freelance journalist/writer too. I am a postgraduate student, and I am hoping to work in journalism/media, and would like to know where I could start trying to get some work published. It doesn't necessarily have to be paid, as I would just like to build up a portfolio. I'll try some of the free magazine and online publications that flogen, but I'd be interested to know if anyone had any other suggestions. I would ideally like to do arts and cultural journalism, so would be interested in book reviewing also...
