How come BJ Penn ended up fighting Matt Hughes?

I'm only an occassional follower of UFC (wifey has to be out of the room, before I turn it on)

I'm a bit lost with what's going on at the moment. What happened that BJ Penn ended up fighting Matt Hughes for the title?

What happened to the French/Canadian guy (JSP??) after he beat Penn? Did he get to fight for a title? He's a ballsy fighter, I think he deserves a title shot.

Did Penn beat somebody other than JSP in the meantime? Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining - it should be a good scrap between Penn and Hughes but I'd just like to know.

I'd very much appreciate it if somebody could fill me in - I've obviously missed a couple of episodes!!

George St Pierre (GSP) beat Penn via decision and was granted a title shot against Hughes.

Unfortunately St Pierre recently injured himself and had to pass the fight on,and UFC decided that it should be Penn. Personally i disagree but hey, thats just me! :D

Anyway, Penn is in and GSP will get his shot at whoever is holding the belt when he is good to go again.

George (The French Canadian guy) picked up an injury (I think to his groin)

He was meant to fight Hughes for the title but since he is injured, BJ will be taking his place.

Thanks for the info lads, now I have to decide if I prefer

    1. Hughes to shut Penn up and GSP to meet Hughes in what could be an all-time classic

    2. Penn to beat Hughes (how?), GSP to beat the ever-loving sh1t out of Penn and then GSP to meet Hughes in what could be an all-time classic

The problem with option 2 is if Penn beats Hughes he's liable to do anything - could he walk again?

GSP has a bad groin injury

Oh and BJ wont beat Hughes this time..they wont fix this fight( like the last) cause they want him to fight GSP next

No, getting a ****hot new gi now.

Karo is still a better fighter than Sanchez it was just a cardio thing and we all know cardio is for sizzies. Judo is still stronger than Gaidojitzu.

BJ is clearly next in line after GSP had to drop out, but I'd like to see him lose, simply so GSP can beat Hughes.

Cardio and conditioning should be top notch for a fighter at Karo's level though, if he's not conditioned to go for 15 minutes at full pace then he's not ready to fight, simple as. :D
