France Telecom will reduce wholesale ADSL prices for ISPs on 1 September, Les Echos reports. These tariffs come in two parts. The 'access' component will come down by 6.3 percent to EUR 13.30 per month, from EUR 14.20, for the most used option (mono VC). The 'collecte' component will be reduced by 20 percent. This option is used by ISPs in areas where they have not installed their own exchanges and must thus resell the ADSL offer purchased wholesale from France Telecom. At the end of July 2005, telecommunications regulator Arcep decided to remove price controls on this option, but only for one year. It recently proposed to eliminate all controls on this option.

Wholesale ADSL is a minority sport in France. Most broadband users in France have unbundled their line - adieu France Telecom. Or they are using FT's Orange converged services - ie various combinations of DSL, HD cable TV replacement, VoIP, and mobile VoIP convergence. While the mobile market is not as bad as in Ireland they could do with a few more mobile networks to heat up competition!
