Rugby players in Trinity. A general opinion.

Please tell me honestly what the general feeling toward Trinity's rugby players is. I have heard (read) the phraze "rugger buggers" thrown around. Would anyone agree with/dispute this labelling.

    Thanks,

    Z

the only problem i have with them is that the team is currently doing ****. i mean COME ON - for a team that spawned the genius that is Jamie Heaslip a few years ago, wtf are they at??

    WIN A GODDAMN COLOURS MATCH

    ...ahem. I likes my rugby.

2 guys in my year were on colours team for trinity last year. One had the pleasure of being handed off by Kearney to let in a try...rofl

    KEARNAGE!!

Hey, not many lads can claim to be handed off by kearney - though hopefully a few more internationals will have the pleasure one of these days :P

I'm not familiar with rugby speak, I'm guessing "handed off" isn't as rude as it sounds?

do you really think DU spawned the genius that is Jamie Heaslip. I remember playing against him in 2nd year, he hasn't changed much since. I'd imagine it was the leinster development squad that's helped him along the way. Don't forget he was never a student within the college.

The Rugby club caters for those that are very good AIL level and those that like to have a laugh but aren't completely crap. They've also got an U20's team.

There is only one pitch on campus with the rest in Santry. Comparing to UCD you'll find much less Leinster or Irish Univeristies players playing with DU, for a number of reasons, scholarships or the lack of, facilites, etc. etc. However we get a good few desent British guys.

The problem some people have with the rugby players is the tend to travel in swarms and use all the weights equipment at the same time and therefore prohibit others for using the gym. They're aparently supposed to be quite elitist (they have blazers like the boat club) but like, does anyone really give a **** or notice?

No, I don't - i just like to think the clubs done something useful recently :)

Well they got promoted within the last few years.

I dunno bombus i'd say your pretty hard on them there, part of their training is that they have to do weights at certain times so you cant begrudge them for using college facilities to train can you when you make a comment on the lack of facilities!

As for most of them travelling in swarms,of the group i mostly hang around with in college 2 of them are on the AIL and another 3 are on the U20's and i dont find them elitist at all really (noting that i never played a rugby match in my life)

Tbh, the rugby playing folk of trinity are the same as the rugby playing folk in blackrock, michaels, clongowes, belvedere, some uk college, some NI college, whereever, some of them are gents some of them are geebags. It's a great auld sport and if you're interested in it, get stuck in don't worry what people that don't even know where the luce is put you off with labels.

Free accomodation! Nice. I know rugby have rooms but it's certainly not paid for by college. Perhaps they have a seperate trust fund for it.

Do you get many rugby playing medics at Trinity, or are they mostly doing somewhat softer subjects?

    Yes.

I would imagine most hardcore rugby players don't go to trinity and especially don't do medicine.

Yea, HARDCORE rugby players eat babies and beat old ladies.

GRRR rarrr and so on so forth.

What exactly does that course entail?

Study of Women? Are there vast collections of playboy and other pornography located within this mercurial and impervious building from which they "study" and "hand off"

I also note the proximity of this establishment to the maths department and get even more suspicious.

Its to make the mathematicans think they have a chance. kinda cruel, ain't it?
