USB Memory key slow

    I bought a 2gig USB memory key but the trasnfer to it is very slow when for example I copy a file and paste it..it takes like 30 mins for 1 gig of data. is this normal? its usb 2.0 btw

    I have a 1gb too, and its extremely slow. even to transer 300mb takes 4 mins. I manages to speed mine up a bit by formatting it. But it didnt last long.

    Not all USB flash drives are equal, in fact they vary in performance by quite a lot

    Take a look at this round-up on Anandtech from last year;

    My 1GB Corsair flash drive on average only took just less than 2 minutes to transfer 600MB of data. Look out for the read/write speed if mentioned on the various products.

    It also depends on your system. An old PC with USB 1.1 might not be as fast as USB 2.0 . In some cases you need the proper drivers to use USB 2.0 properly.
