Wii price/release date confirmed tomorrow?

Apparently the price and release date will be confirmed by Nintendo tomorrow. And from what I hear, it's certain to be below E250 (and most likely E229!).

I think Nintendo are lining up a big shock with the release date. We could be getting our sweaty paws on it within the next 6-7 weeks...

As long as stores don't try to do the same as the DS and only bundle it with useless games!

I work in one of the well known games shops in the city centre and some of the game bubdle's are OK at best. Although my crowd offer the original DS with the new super mario for 179.99 but won't pair that with the new DS lite to boost their sales?? Run by a bunch of monkeys....

God the Wii will be fantastic...

I bought my DS at Dixons in Stanstead airport. People had the choice of a DS with Asphalt or some arcade collection. Whoop-di-doo!

Luckily I was there the week earlier and the guy said I could buy the DS by itself...I held them to their word lol

You would swear that they would bundle it with a decent game in order to create long term software sales. So many people sold their DS around here after getting a useless game to go along with it.

One of the better games my crowd offered was sonic rush...ok it aint as good as Sonic 2 on the megadrive but it's better than freaking Asphalt or Over the hedge. I want a DS lite but my crowd will give me 50 off a DS lite, then sell my DS for 100euro. I'm not gonna fork out 100euro for a machine I already have but it would be sweet...

You don't play Nintendo games for 20+ years and not get some contacts on the inside :)

As stated, *I* believe that we could see it in 6-7 weeks. That's my gut feeling on when Wii will release (whether it be Japan or USA).

Word is that Friday November 17 2006 will be the Irish release date, pushed back from November 3rd.

I'm not going to post conjecture :)

November the 17th makes sense. Same day as PS3.

    Nov 17th:

    Rainbow 6 - Vegas
    Gears of War
    Forza 2 (all 360)

    PS3
    Now the Wii

Anyone wanna buy a house? :p

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 15,239 Mod ✭✭✭✭FutureGuy

Is Nov 17 the Irish release date for PS3? Not that i'll be spending 600 euro on it or anything lol. I own a PS2 and PSP, but i'm not one bit excited about it. I'd rather fun games over greater soccerboot detail any day of the week :D

I hope it's released in October. I hate when things are released too close to Christmas.

OK. So Nintendo can control the release prices, but I can see things going the same way as they did with the DS. The Wii and the games are going to be overpriced relative to the rest of the world.

I have never bought a DS game in Ireland. Mainly because they are way too expensive. All my games have been bought in America, where they are half the price they are here. Luckily, I've always known somebody going over when I've wanted a new game.

The only good excuse is Governement Duty...but is it really that high? Or, are we being brought for a ride by a cartel of retailers?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 15,239 Mod ✭✭✭✭FutureGuy

As I said in a different post, a Limerick retailer told me they would be selling it for 300-330 and I basically told them where to go. Then another retailer told be it would be less than 250.

What did the GameCube sell for???

If its going to be less than 250, it will be 249.99 in Irish stores, or worse still, you will only be able to buy it bundled with a bad game.

Limey_tank, I agree with you, I get my games from cdwow...nothing like playing the New Super Mario Bros a month before everyone else :D

    Wild conjecture it is so.

i also heard this, but the Wii was ready to go to market in july, so they could easily launch the thing tomorrow if they wanted. i think even nintendo wouldn't want to release on the same day as ps3 anywhere in the world.

a new nintendo and sony games machine on the same day? japan would melt...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭limey_tank

    The Day Japan Melted....

With feelings towards Sony running very negative in the press and even the fanboys being kind of disparaging it would be a nifty coup if they did release at the same date. However, Sony does have a lot of momentum...

Tee Hee.... I want a Wii.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

Friend in smyths got a list of prices in recently....

Wii to retail at 250, ps3 at 700 - with one game I imagine

(unknown details on the package, but must be sold in a package)

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 15,239 Mod ✭✭✭✭FutureGuy

    700???

For 700, I expect it to make me my breakfast in the morning. Thats just crazy.

who would be crazy enough to spend 700e on a PS3 , it would have to be bundled with a few games (3) and an extra controller for anyone to even consider it !!!!!

For 700 hundered you can have an xbox 360 premium and 7 games from play-asia and an extra wireless controller and a play and charge kit and some money left over for laughing at the PS3 early adopters.

edit : Just read futures post, I agree 100%

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭tba

So this PS3, is it some type of pleasure bot?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,466 ✭✭✭Smoggy

    sucks, f**ks, swallows then leaves.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 15,239 Mod ✭✭✭✭FutureGuy

I think alot of people will realise on release day that they could buy an XBox 360 and a Wii plus games for the same price as a PS3. :D

They will call it *Dr. Evil pinky smirk* "the wii60"...muhahahahahaha!!!!

The PS3 will have all the fancy adverts and I am sure they will still make money from people who follow their brand name, but the *real* gamers with think long and hard about what machines they will be purchasing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭tba

in that respect being a real gamer I will get a PC, and maybe a Wii if I feel the need to multiplay in my livingrooom.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,465 ✭✭✭Irish Halo

    Well apparently news will come:
    http://www.aussie-nintendo.com/?v=news&p=4690

Looks like Sept 14th/15th (which is during the only week I will be nowhere near the intertube) will be when all will be revealed.

I'm quietly confident that even if the Wii does not become the dominant format it will fufill my requirements of being a console with some great games that will keep me happy just like my DS did even before it was obvious that it would stomp all over the PSP.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 15,239 Mod ✭✭✭✭FutureGuy

Ok no official release but they have spoken to stores about the release date. This is what I was told...

"It's pretty much locked as November 2nd, but you never know..."

    "How locked"

    "90%"

Don't believe it if ye don't want to, I just want to pass on what i was told.:)

Just put a deposit down on a Wii today. First non-handheld console I'll buy at launch. I hope it's more of a GBA launch with some excellent titles and not a DS or GC launch.

Ss is the Wii retailing for €250?

Or are the prices above speculation?

Being a die-hard nintendo fan and always will be, I detest sony...

But this time sony really are shooting themselves in the foot, their blu-ray disc adventure is leaving the gamer out in the dark. Christ thats alot of money to pay for a console. It's delays and more complication, and another thing it's been downgraded again -> http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=33995

How is the PSP doing? haven't seen any official figures for over here but according to Spong ( http://news.spong.com/article/10703 ) the DS is king in Japan, not one PSP game in the top ten charts, all DS games.

The DS sold mores units last week than all of the other consoles put together!

The same person that told me the date also said it was very likely to be 249. But I guess you can call this speculation too since Nintendo hasn't graced us with an official announcement!

...actually what about that recycling fee thingy (the formal name escapes me this early in the morning)...that could make it 254! I'll be on to Nintendo about this :p .

I guess we'll all shell out about 400 on the day for some decent games and extra controllers...my gf can't wait to play Wii Sports  Actually, sadly enough...neither can I :D .

My brother works in the stockroom of a major retailer in Dublin and he says he has to bring down a DS to the floor(the keep the actual console off the floor) constantly where as he's only brought down a few PSPs. I'm not saying that is proof but it says alot

Also he imported a PSP before the european launch and is now hoping I upgrade to a Lite so he can have my old DS, don't think he uses the PSP much especially since he got a real DAP a while ago(not an iPoo).

can we change the title of this thread to "wii release date and price sept 15th?" please.

whatever any store is telling you is bull. the date is not confirmed the price is not confirmed.....

about the ps3 pricing..... remember it is OPEN PRICED so they can charge you whatever the hel they want with whatever add ons they want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,386 ✭✭✭Attol

I'd love to know where Smith's heard about the dates and prices from. How can a shop so blatantly make stuff up? I'm curious to see the reaction from customers when the information they've been provided with deviates from the truth...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 569 ✭✭✭failsafe

The official date that everyone seems to be going on for a nintendo announcement is 14th septh - at a press conference style "gathering" hosted by Regi Fils-Amis (then another conference the next day in europe)

If you look at IGN or a few other sites some journalists have put up scans of their invitations (with some details blurred out) to this gathering, so it's pretty clear that Nintendo have something big planned for the middle of sept.

Personally I can't see them going for the suicide option of a release on the same day as the PS3. Nobody's that stupid, especially when they can learn a very valuable lesson from the GameCube's second mover disadvantage, and get a head start on the ps3. My guess is a Late October (I sometimes dream early October:D)

As far as price goes I don't even know what to guess. But you can be certain it'll be toward the upper boundary in Ireland

    September.

Actually the official line from nintendo is that there will be more news about the Wii on those dates but haven't said anything about the price or release date being announced. However I'd say it's extremely unlikely that it won't be announced at these events. Hope the late european announcement doesn't coincide with a typical late European launch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

Don't know if it means anything but play.com have changed the release date off all the Wii games from 13/11 to 25/12. I really hope they don't make this a christmas release.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,707 ✭✭✭skywalker

I was looking at play.com a few weeks ago (maybe over a month even) and they had christmas day down as release date. So that doesnt mean anything.

Also logistically it would be impossible (not to mention insane) to try to actually launch the thing christmas day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,881 ✭✭✭Kurtosis

Surely if they're announcing the release date and price at these events, they'll have to have other things to reveal. I mean a whole big event for them to say:

"The Wii will release the xxth of October/November and will cost this much. Thank you."

I'm thinking they're gonna have something else big enough to spring on that day, maybe more info about WiiConnect24, revealing of better graphical capabalities or maybe info about being able to recharge the controllers (I'm praying for this last one to come true).
Any other theories on other info to ocme out at this meeting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭limey_tank

It strikes me as a little odd to hold a big event just to announce a release date. The Wii has already been demoed at E3, they're not going to demo it again...or are they?

Perhaps, *enters the realms of impossibility* Reggie is going to do a Steve and say "shipping today". I'm only saying this because the hype is reminding me of certain Apple "events" in the past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

They are having the Wii playable, revealing more games, and more on the console (most likely just release dates and prices, but is there more to it?)

The official quote is "Wii will be playable. Nintendo will be announcing new software at the event and there will be new announcements regarding the Wii console itself." Source: http://n-europe.com/news.php?nid=9520

Basically they host their own events because they don't show at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS). Used to be a big Nintendo event called Spaceworld, but hasnt been one in years.

They have the same/similar events in Japan and America on the 14th of September, and one in Europe on the 15th. It'll be interesting to see if they go for global launch, and how the prices from all 3 regions compare.

They could do a global launch going on how long they have actually been manufacturing Wii.
