Major party town! Beautiful to look at, some lovely old buildings. Very good choice of restaurants with some interesting dishes. There are some really good local beers too.

At night, especially at weekends, the place kicks off. Loads of options in the old town but just outside it is livelier with locals before 10/11 at night. Locals are friendly and helpful with advice for places to eat & drink.

When you've exhausted normal channels for drinking there's the "No Name Bar" which is open all night. It's rough and ready so if you're a nervous type leave it out.

Pricewise it's cheaper than here (surprise!) but a lot more expensive than Lithuania or Latvia. The main tourist office in the old town is a mine of information.

There's plenty of info on the web if you google.

Word of warning: don't start drinking with the Finns (loads of them come over on the ferry) unless you want to miss the next day of your trip!

    Hi,

I go to tallinn a few times a year on business. The old town is obviously the place for all the touristy things. There you will find a lot of bars, and if you fancy a pint you will find an Irish bar (Molly Malones) in the main sqaure, and another one just at the start of the old town by the flower market/ciggerrette kiosks. The one in the main square is probably the best option, nicer atmosphere and better interior etc. However, on most main streets there are bars etc, a bit different to the traditional bars, more like meeting places , cosy seats etc, however when you are an Irish guy on your tod you stick out like a sore thumb as its usually full of people meeting and lounging around chatting etc as opposed to the Irish equvilent of just getting bloto in a bar! If I was you and money permitting id stay in one of the more upmarket hotels (if possible) as the bars are bigger and you have a better chance of striking up a conversation with someone should you want to with a fellow traveller.

never traveled on my own, but from what i've been reading online, hostels are the best place to meet up with other solo travelers.

    hmmmm

    thanks for the feedback though.

Excellent place. Friendly locals - parts of it are still suffering from being occupied but its coming along great.

Great place to go on the sauce.
