Want to get into the publishing industry in any way, shape or form but dont even know where to go about getting in. Ideally I would love to be a poof reader or sub editor. Hey guys.......need help!

Outta college with a BA in English and History and a Dip in Journalism and media studies. Want to get into the publishing industry in any way, shape or form but dont even know where to go about getting in. Ideally I would love to be a poof reader or sub editor. Have written for local papers etc for years. Have applied to serveral publishing houses but when they hear that I have no publishing experience, thats it. Starting to get v pee'd off with it and am working in retail trying to pay the bills......any ideas?
