I was walking past the Courthouse last week and there was a truck with a shredding machine inside, churning away. On the ledge of the truck were loads of old files, beautifully old handwritten documents on aged paper. I felt it was such a waste.. These were obviously very old, and surely any privacy type laws were not applicable? Wouldn't you love to have a look at them!

As we have lost our National Archives during the Civil War, you would think that we would know better than to shred old documents, that will get even more fascinating in years to come. They might be stored in computers now, but it's just not the same.

The thread title is very apt.

it is a shame to see old documents being disposed of but maybe they have retained some of them. Mightn't be a bad idea to ask in the local office
