Brussels - things to do?

OK, due to a **** up on the part of my friend we have to spend a night in Brussels tonight, as our flight arrives in too late to catch a train to Amsterdam where we were supposed to be going. So basically what is there to do in this town at around 11.30pm on a Sunday night? I was there before while inter railing and the place seemed fairly dead to be honest, but we might have just been in the wrong area. Does anybody have any suggestions as to where we'll be able to find a part of the town where we'll be able to find some decent bars/ nightclubs? Also any recommendations for hostels near this place? Thanks for your help.

There are bars open in Brussels all night, if you're so inclined.

A good restaurant, which turns into a bar with a DJ later on is La Petite Florence, which is just around the corner from the Conrad.

dont make the mistake I did when in Brussels and go out too early. The town is dead until about midnight and then it is packed. I think alot of the locals drink/eat at home before going out.

I was there last week for a night. I honestly found it really boring. The architecture was impressive and the beer was nice but that was it really. The pubs and clubs didn't impress me and the hostel turned out to be great craic anyway so.

Funnily enough most of the people we met there were on their way to Amsterdam.

I agree Valmount. Myself and Mrs WA spent 4 days there last year and it was by far the least attractive place we've ever been to (and we've been to a lot of cities). It's so non-descript and humdrum.

Same thoughts here. Didn't find it greatly amusing, except for the waffles, beer and architecture. Its nice around the Grand Place – the gothic style is straight out of some nightmare blood/gut/gruesome video game. The area where I stayed (Husa President) was very strange too – brand new all-glass sky scrappers trying to hide just as tall slum-like apartment complexes.
