f1.8 50mm lens - common uses for it?

Hi there, I was just wondering what would photographers normally shoot with a f1.8 50mm lens? Portraits? Landscape? I want to take a few more film photos (before they stop developing them ) and am wondering what would look the best on this lens.

I shoot indoor showjumping with mine, anything really that needs low light performance without a flash. It really is super sharp for portraits.

I use mine when I go to weddings (as a guest). I can deal with dark-ish indoor shots at the church and get nice shallow depth of field for portraits.

my son brought home one a while back it was $70 or something like that, very cheap but great quality for a lens so small and cheep!!

Yeah, it will be less than a hundred bucks, can't go wrong tbh.

Yea I was planning on getting the sigma 10-20 but like I only have $150 saved so like I wont have the money.. so ill just have a look for the 50mm!

Portraits because at f1.8 you can really defocus the background, which puts all the emphasis in the photo onto the person.

Also low light indoor shots when a tripod isn't available. And movement in low light

Like the man said, it's a great walkabout lens (really small and light) and makes you think a bit about what you're doing as the zoom is built into your feet.

It's great for low light, indoors etc, though it's probably a bit long for landscapes, even on a film camera. Also, on a film body you'll be able to get even shallower depth of field.
