Hi there, I was just wondering what would photographers normally shoot with a f1.8 50mm lens? Portraits? Landscape? I want to take a few more film photos (before they stop developing them ;) ) and am wondering what would look the best on this lens.

    Thanks

I shoot indoor showjumping with mine, anything really that needs low light performance without a flash. It really is super sharp for portraits.

I use mine when I go to weddings (as a guest). I can deal with dark-ish indoor shots at the church and get nice shallow depth of field for portraits.

Portraits because at f1.8 you can really defocus the background, which puts all the emphasis in the photo onto the person.

Also low light indoor shots when a tripod isn't available. And movement in low light

    Here's a few that I took this morning with a Canon 50mm 1.8.

Portraits, gigs, street...it's a pretty universal lens :)

Like the 2nd one jools! I can see how it really defocuses the background...

Like the man said, it's a great walkabout lens (really small and light) and makes you think a bit about what you're doing as the zoom is built into your feet.

It's great for low light, indoors etc, though it's probably a bit long for landscapes, even on a film camera. Also, on a film body you'll be able to get even shallower depth of field.
