I have the chance to buy a new Apple MacBook Pro 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo 15.4" 2nd Generation (MA600LL/A) Notebook w/ 512MB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, SuperDrive and a 1 year warranty...

The price is 1,375 Euro which I reckon is a good price...I already have an Imac G5 1.8.....just wondering how portable the 15.4" MacBook Pro is? Does anyone have one and would they recomend it or are Apple likely to bring out something new soon? So should I dive in or walk away?

Extremely good deal! They're portable enough really. About the same as any other 15" laptop.

Smaller and lighter than most 15" Windows laptops, in my experience (sat it down besides a Windows laptop the other day, and it was about half the thickness, same width though).

Anyway as I said, if you're not interested, I want it. :D Where are you getting it that cheap anyway?

e-Bay, second chance offer and not the scam 'second chance offer' i.e. my losing bid won (Mine was not even the 2nd highest) - The same place I got my Sony camera (T-9) from, that only cost me 250 euro! Over here I saw it for 415 euro, pixmania around 300...

I might get stung on import tax but I did not with the camera as it was gift rapped and marked as value of 60 euro....plus they will refund half of the tax if you do get caught....I think it is worth the risk...

Sounds good! I'm going to advise you to buy applecare as soon as you get it though just incase. I've only used ebay a few times for things but nothing like a laptop. Just to cover yourself

I too am looking at a second hand MBP. 2.16 Ghz core duo with 2ghz of Ram for 1800. Fair to say i think yours is a good deal.

I recently sold my 20" G5 imac to switch to coreduo. (imovie doesn't like my Hdd Video camera - need windows for the software) Was going to hold on for imminent core2duo rollout but the idea of gettin a 3month old MBP with nearly a grand off the price is too tempting. Don't think the core2duo will be that much of a step up to make significant difference for my needs (my brother has a G4 powerbook and it zips along nicely) and the portability of the MBP is just the deciding factor. I say if you can afford it...go for it!! By far the best designed laptop i've seen/used.

    It's most portable 15" I've ever seen. It's only 1" thick.

Does anyone know if I should use the US power adaptor i got with the mac book? I mean I have a US to UK plug adaptor but I don't know if this will work, has anyone else got a US apple laptop...?

if you look at it when you get it...it should say on the transformer 110-240V at 50-60Hz or something like that. If it just says 110V at 60Hz then you need to get a new european adapter.

It says on my autotransformer maxload 50 va, input 220/240V ac 50/60hz, then output 110/120V AC 50/60Hz, if I get a manual one where I can set the output what setting should I haave it at I have the apple 85W power adaptor...

I dont understand why somtimes people think laptops need additional power adaptors. I have NEVER seen a laptop PSU that is not international. Why? Because laptops are ment to travel!

Long story short, get the mains to the apple PSU whatever way and at whatever voltage you want, it will take care of the rest. A normal "figure of eight" lead is fine.
