My mac book has stopped recognizing my Seagate external hard drive. At first it did and I was rendering visual/audio footage and saving it onto the seagate. Then I moved it and it stopped working and now the computer won't recognize the hard drive despite me changing the fire wire etc. PLease help!!! I need to sort this out ASAP. Thanks.

It could be that the drive has gone bad. Does it show up in Disk Utility at all?

Mac is notorious for being very moody with Sea Gate external drives. I worked with one for just under a year and it was nothing but trouble since day 1.

That's when I invested in a LaCie drive, which has been great. It's a little more expensive, but always connects, and has never corrupted or given me any kind of crap.

SeaGate as a brand is not very reliable, when I went to where I bought it in Galway, they didn't wanna hear about it and gave me no help whatsoever. Whether this was a problem within customer relations in the store or just the knowledge about SeaGate external harddrives. I dunno!

    Just in my view.

    Mac+SeaGate= Bad

Just as a point Lacie do not manufacture drives they are just a badge name so the guts of the unit could be a anything, check it out under system profiler.
Anyway connect the external to another unit to see if it works visa versa with the computer chances are you may have shot the firewire port bad news if so. Reset PRAM fire up again look under system profiler for any activity if not then use hard drive utility and check the boot partition is ok.

I had a bunch of Seagate external drives, and have never had any kind of a problem with hooking it up to Mac's. In fact, I'd recommend Seagate as a reliable product.

I guess for me, it was just my one bloody faulty Seagate so... I'm still remaining with LaCie though.
