    Hello!

I'm have question regarding the 'r' in Mandarin. I lived down the south of China (Nanjing, Xiamen etc) and so I didn't use that 'r' sound when learning Chinese. I say 'nali' not 'nar', 'hua' not 'huar', 'yidian' not 'yidiar' etc etc. Am I doomed or can I continue to ignore the 'r'?

    Thanks,

    Xiaolan.

The "r" at the end of words is totally a Beijing thing and is not set in stone...though many Beijingers would beg to differ.
