its back again folks...all details are here:

    CORK OPEN ULTIMATE TOURNAMENT 2006

    NOVEMBER 4 -5

    Hey all,

This is an announcement that registration is now open for teams to enter the 3rd annual Cork Open. This 16 team open tournament caters for a mixture of home grown Irish talent as well as a host of teams from abroad. Last year saw 12 Irish teams square up against teams from Belgium, Italy, Scotland and a pick up team of players from all over the world. The weekend mixes good quality ultimate (7 games per team over the two days) with fantastic parties, which we’re famous for down here in the real capital.

    WHERE IT’S ON:

Cork is Ireland’s second largest city located on the south coast. It is well serviced by an international airport, a ferry port and bus and train stations. The airport offers many direct links from European cities with Ryanair www.ryanair.com , Aer Lingus www.aerlingus.com , Easy Jet www.easyjet.co.uk and other companies. Check out the full details at www.skyscanner.net .

Bus and rail links to Dublin and other Irish cities are frequent and can be seen at www.buseireann.ie and www.irishrail.ie

The tournament itself is held at Curraheen Farm, a large sports complex located just a 5-10 minute drive from the city centre. 6 full size ultimate pitches of the most luscious Irish grass you’ve ever seen, shower/ changing facilities and onsite food are all provided.

    WHEN IT’S ON:

The tournament will be held on the 4th and 5th of November. A welcoming party will take place on Friday the 3rd where teams can meet each other over a pint of Murphy’s stout and have the craic. The famous Cork Open themed party will be back with a vengeance this year on the Saturday night. More details on this will be posted in the coming weeks. Pictures from last year’s movie themed party can be viewed on our tournament website.

    HOSPITALITY:

Most teams and pick-ups will be hosted by Cork players in their houses. Priority for housing will be given to foreign teams and those travelling long distances to get here. There are also many B&B’s and hostels in Cork that are quite cheap and good to stay at. For those who prefer the extra comfort information on Hostels and B&B’s can also be found on the tournament website.

For players staying on in Cork on Sunday night, accommodation will be provided by Cork players, as long as you’re nice to them!

    ULTIMATE:

The aim of our Open tournament is to promote club ultimate in Ireland and to bring foreign teams here to spice things up, so there will be a mix of student and club teams from Ireland and abroad. There are no separate divisions so teams can be mixed men and women, all men, all women, bring your children, bring your dogs, mix it up and have a fabulous time before winter closes in! Irish Ultimate has come a long way in the last 10 or so years. SOTG winners in both Open and Womens

division at WUGC 2004 in Finland says a lot. University College Cork

Ultimate (aka Skulltimate) was founded in 1998 by David Rosenfeld (ex- Headrush Bristol, Fubar Cheltenham, Armitage Shanks Brighton). Cork was the first club to be founded outside of Dublin and continues to grow every year. We run the only outdoor open tournament in Ireland: this one!

    HOW MUCH?

Team fees are for 7 quality games of ultimate, breakfast at the venue on both mornings, two parties and a team pack. The costs are:

    €150 or £100 per team

    €15 or £10 per player pick-up

Payment can be made by cheque or bank transfer by end of September.

    Cheques can be posted to:

    Tadhg Healy

    c/o: Photonic Systems Group

    Tyndall National Institute

    Lee Maltings

    Cork

    (Ireland doesn’t do postcodes)

Bank transfer details to follow but we can sort out the money side of things at a later date. For now the important this is to express your interest and confirm your place at the last outdoor tournament before the winter closes in. For more information feel free to email one of us, or the club.

We look forward to hearing from you soon and seeing you on the pitches in November.
