Firefox gone to crap...

Recently my firefox updated itself. Now whenever I start I have to chose a profile to use - nice idea but its just annoying, but now the problem is everytime I use it, it eventually crashes with "Encountered an error and needs to close", and then it won't let me use the same profile I had been using, even after I restart the computer. So now I have about 50 "Default User" profiles, firefox is continuously crashing, and I never have anything in my bookmarks because I can't use the same profile each time.

Anyway to turn off automatic updates, or something similar? So I can reinstall an old version and keep it that way...

edit: Wait I found how to turn off auto update, but still, anyone experiencing these weird issues with the latest update or just me?

uninstall all the extensions and plugins and uninstall and reinstall firefox.

You have some crap in it somewhere causing a problem.

Delete your profile folder too, so there's no trace of any FF files

Haven't noticed any problems with FF itself but Browser Sync has gone haywire, screws up the Bookmarks nearly everytime. Anyone else see this?

As has been said delete all the profiles from your firefox folder, it sounds like something has conflicted with whatever extensions you had installed.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your user name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

If you want to save the data in your original profile use the profile manager to delete the duplicate profile folders assuming the names it gave the other profiles are not identical to the original.

Copy that profile somewhere or simply export your bookmarks out of Firefox via the bookmark manager, the extension info-lister can also generate a list of the extensions you have installed along with the url for their webpage.

Once all profiles have been removed from the folder above, start firefox and it will automatically generate a clean profile, import your bookmarks and download the extensions from their websites. Install the extensions one at a time to be safe in case multiple installs could screw something up.

Fingers crossed everything returns to normal after that.

Yeah FF's doing the odd weird thing here and there for me too. Well it's only one thing really, but it's annoying - the "find" function, when I type in a word that's on the page, it just goes red. I have to hit the "highlight all" button to find the word.
