A Room for DCU

    Hi,
I told my friend I'd help her find a place to stay for when she's in DCU. I know there's another thread about accommodation but because it's not for me, I don't want to but in with specifics.

Anyway, it will be her first year and she hasn't got her own transport so preferably somewhere within walking distance. She would like somewhere with a park or a suitable place to go jogging. Now the tricky part, she doesn't want to be in a house full of smokers and people who are getting drunk every second night and the house to be a host to parties every weekend. She doesn't smoke and isn't a drinker.

The thing is, it will probably be almost impossible to be lucky enough to find a house on daft.ie etc in the area for students that wont be like that.

So I'm kind of at a loss where to start looking. She needs somewhere before the year starts so she can't really wait to settle in and find people she'd like to move in with.

    Any suggestions? :)

I saw that mentioned in the other thread, what's the story with it? Is it student only accom? How much is it per week? Is it for college term only and is it run by the college (rules) or is everything your own responsibility? I think she'd prefer to rent a houe near by?

Regarding a location for jogging, I'd say Albert Park beside DCU might be a nice place to do it, just make sure she only does it when its bright though. There are some unsavoury folk around there at night. :)

Yes, during the college term Shanowen is student only however during the Summer it is open to everyone. Rent is €123 a week during term and €93 during the summer. These figures include ALL bills.

No, its not run by the college but like any apartment complex there are rules regarding late night parties, noise and the like. Outside of that its your own responsibility, just like anyother complex.

If she wants a house nearby then someone better start looking for her. They're going to be snapped up pretty quickly now that the CAO offers have been sent out. Keep an eye on Daft.ie too, you never know what might crop up.

Cool thanks for the info. If any of you are, or know people who are the type of people she'd like to live with who have a spare room in a house, could you drop me a PM please because I'll probably forget about this without having search:o

yeah best bet is to try shanowen..
works out to about 500 per month..
I was considering that at the end of august..
    but decide against it..

If worst come to worst, get on campus accom..
for first yr student.. you'll definitely get one..
    The smallest one..
    can't remember what it's called
It's cheap but not worth it IMO

go for the best one on campus.. college park
well worth what you pay for..
I think it'll be hard to get one there at this stage..

    But you'll never know..
my friend called them up and got one on the day around this time last yr..
the only thing i don't like about on campus is that during summer you definitely have to move out.. and that you cannot bring guest after 12..

    well your choice

yeah that sounds a bit crap. She might want to stay up in Dublin so I don't think that would be a good option. Perhaps a house to rent around the area would be good.

Do you reckon say, if she found a house to rent, she could get tenants pretty easily? This way she could have a choice in the type of people she lives with too rather than moving in somewhere not knowing what the people will be like:)

go into the college and have a look around the notice board..
I've seen few ad for people to move in..
Of course that was back during the term..

As I've said before, living on campus in first year isn't as bad becuase theres a great atmosphere around Larkfield and you'll get to know loads of people. Its after first year when you should consider moving living elsewhere.

For a first year this isn't the best idea. She'd want to be meeting other firsties and people from her own course and College Park isn't the best place to do that

Theres a reason for that, people are just fed up of the place. Its funny, its the first time I've seen people actually boycott something so effectivly. :D

    Looking forward to meeting you

    (Darz0re on vent)

and Shanowen Square is cool, management office are sound, spar right outside, security at night and no prison like rules to ruin fun. There arent that many parties which is a good side but people dont mind you having a few people over as long as your not too loud (I havent had one complaint that I know of and i've a 2/3 nights out a week person and often have people back)
